I have to disagree with those who say that this song is depressing or negative. The whole song just sounds upbeat, which has a lot to do with it (unless it is musical irony...ah well). I see the last two verses really say that yes, you can freeze life and see the pretty things in a still frame, as well as the bad (fault lines in the soil). If we stand still and pick apart our lives at any instant, we can find beauty and we can find things not pleasing to us- faults in the soil, cracks in the paint. But that is not the purpose of the life we have, to stand and pick it apart. The beauty of life is that we are animated, and can help people like the doctor at the beginning of the song through very simple acts. We are all a part of something greater, even if that thing is just another person, we are all fractions of something greater than ourselves. |
