Echo and the Bunnymen – The Cutter Lyrics 19 years ago
Its "sellotape." Its a brand name.

As someone who grew up on echo, this song to me, critics, ect. was regarded as containing several drug references. I don't think they are completely at odds with OneTwo's thoughts, but to ignore them probably isn't right either. Brewing alternatives, bottom drawer could easily be references to drugs. Conquering myself...anyone who has tripped to hard can understand this, etc.

Echo and the Bunnymen – Do It Clean Lyrics 19 years ago
Oops, meant to quote, brewing alternatives/what's in the bottom drawer/waiting for things to come from The Cutter. Mixing up the medicine is from Villiers Terrace.

Either way, anyone who doesn't get these drug references is just fooling themselves.

Nice try Rich, but you are way off. "Not drugs," huh. As if there were no drugs in the early 80s. LOL. Echo, New Order, etc. were all considered part of the new psychedelic scene back then. Take a listen to The Cutter and tell me what he means by mixing up the medicine.

Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart Lyrics 19 years ago
Ian Curtis wasn't addicted to heroin.

Song is simply a naked exposure of his relationship with his wife. Things were going poorly, regardless of Annick, but is certainly exacerbated the breakdown.

Ian was in poor health and couldn't even make it thru their last Euro tour, the lead singer of A Certain Ration often stepped in.

Lastly, the song was released as a single after his death.

New Order – Blue Monday Lyrics 19 years ago
Doctor Death is on the money.

After Ian's death, others had to write lyrics, hence, "And I still find it so hard/To say what I need to say."

The interpretation of the ship in the harbor relates to them leaving to go on tour. Remember, Ian offed himself on the eve of their U.S. tour.

Misfortune: Obviously not happy about the suicide. If only he was back, then everyone would be happy. Peter and Bernard were put in unconfortable role and Bernard at the time acknowled that he would never get over the suicide.

This song is more of diagolue between the author and himself and between the author and Ian.

Hüsker Dü – Whatever Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm not sure if all of Zen Arcade is about Homosexuality, but Bob and Grant were definitely lovers and the end of their relationship ended the band (ok, both's drug use certainly contributed as well). Check out Grant's 2451.

Also, check out Norton's stache...undoubtedly gay.

Anyone from the cities who was there in the 80s knows this.
