| Chevelle – Straight Jacket Fashion Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think I'm gonna have to agree with trexaur. When I think of a straight jacket, the first thing that comes to mind is "crazy", so in a sense, you can re-word the song title to "crazy fashion". To me, the first verse is saying that naive people are following this idol or person. I sensed Pete was expressing disappointment with the line "there they go", as when one sees another doing something stupid, where then one can disappointingly express "there they go". "by the way, we last because we're colorful and as for fools, just play the opposite" These two lines are stating that people who keep true to themselves and garner life's rewards by being who they are are more alive than those who hide behind sheep skin. In the chorus, Pete's telling someone they're a lot less of an individual as they perceive and portray themselves to be, and that they're going to ridiculous lengthts to preserve that image. The second verse makes me think of a fancy concert stage. It's like Pete's saying, "Take your fancy show and equipment and shove it up your ass." It fits that subject and Chevelle has bashed on the mainstream before. This isn't the first time ("Get Some") ("Breach Birth") |

| I agree with "mindlessconcept". I think this song is about Joe leaving the band, and like "michellenicole03" said, the song does seem to fit that situation. I read an article on a local news site about Chevelle because they performed here (El Paso) on Wednesday night and Joe's departure was mentioned. Pete did say that Joe was negatively affecting the band and could not stand life on the road. Read Chevelle's article on wikipedia.org and there are quotes from interviews with Sam, Pete, and Joe about his firing from the band, the read the lyrics to this song again. It fits rather well. | |
| Chevelle – Get Some Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is supposed to be about American Idol, but I've also heard that it's about getting drunk and laid. I saw Chevelle perform two nights ago and before they played this song Pete said, "This one's for all the people who hope to get some tonight." | |
| The Roots – Don't Say Nuthin' Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This track is supposed to be like a diss to mainstream rap. Black Thought purposely slurred the chorus as a way of "saying" mainstream rap artists aren't saying anything useful or making little sense in their lyrics while they're still getting paid, which is why the only parts of the chorus anyone understands are "Hm, cut the check/Give it here, don't say nothin'/Just give it here, and don't say nothin'...". | |
| Pharoah Monche – The Truth Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song deals with what the truth in life is. We're defenseless against truth, but it can also set us free. | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – Tonight, Tonight Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think this track is about a couple's "first time". The last few lines of the song led me to believe so... "We'll crucify the insincere tonight. We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight. The indescribable moments of your life, tonight. The impossible is possible tonight. Believe in me as I believe in you tonight." This can translate to, "Let this moment be of passion and not so much physical pleasure ('We'll crucify the insincere...'). Tonight, we become one ('We'll make things right, we'll feel it all...') because this experience will be so beautiful we won't be able to describe it verbally ('The indescribable moments of our life...'). What you thought was impossible is about to become possible, so believe in me like I believe in you tonight and it will happen." |

I think the song deals with the complexity of simply being human. "The world is a vampire sent to drain secret destroyers. Hold you up to the flame, and what do I get for my pain? Betrayed desires and a piece of the game." Looks as if he's pissed off at life, as if saying "the whole world is against me", hence the world being a vampire. It pushes you around and you get nothing for your pain but false pleasures, making you part of the secular world ("...betrayed desires and a piece of the game"). |

| Metallica – Sad But True Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I don't remember exactly through which media source I heard this, but this song's supposed to be about drug addiction, and if you really think about it and look over the lyrics again, it's very relative to what an addiction can be. "You. You're my mask. You're my cover--my shelter", or "you (the drug) are my refuge from reality". "Do, do my work. Do my dirty work, scapegoat. Do, do my deeds, for you're the one who's shamed", which can be interpreted as the drug talking to the addict saying, "You're gonna do what I make you do because you're gonna take the blame for it anyway." |

| Chevelle – The Clincher Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The first image that popped up in my head when I heard the words "Helped to nail down..." was Jesus being nailed to the cross. "Should we have known, never would I help to nail down with nothing to gain. Here's the clincher--this should be you." In other words, should anyone have known Jesus really was the Son of God, his own people never would have helped to nail him down on the cross with nothing to gain in reality. The song tells us that it should be us who should have been nailed down for our sins and not at the cost of an innocent man. |
