I think the marriage part can be taken metaphorically or literal. I think them being together is irrational in any sense, but he doesn't care, so he's saying "lets just get married!". as in.. lets just go for it all, forget what everyone else thinks, forget what we SHOULD do. or, yeah, it could be taken straight out and literal. |

i agree with half cab. i believe its more his fault, rather than the girls, and now he has remorse and realizes what he did. now she's over it, maybe, which could explain "you're having the time of your life", but he's still hanging around. "i love you much too late" explains a lot too. |

I think it's about a couple in love, and the guy is really insecure about what the girl wants, and he's just telling her he'd be anything she wanted, because without her, hes lost and if he were with any other girl he'd be "giving it away". "giving it away" in the sense that he would merely be acting but, just not FEELING like he does with this girl. |

I think it's very clear what this song is about. I don't think it holds a religious meaning, but it could for you, and thats awesome as well. What I get from it is the all-too-common situation where a couple is broken up, in love, and trying to work things out. I believe Matt is trying and trying to get this girl to forgive him and get her forgiveness but she just won't but it. Perhaps she's making him wait while she makes her decision. And it's just irking him because he's putting in all his effort, and now he is getting sick of it. And thinks she took her demands too far. so now hes sort of given up, but he still loves her, so hes not fully ready to be the one to leave. |

I do think it's self explanatory, and not open to interpretation. It's about a couple thats in love, but they just fight and fight.
"we can be so mad we considered not to exist.
We both know that there’s so much love clenched between our fists."
They think about breaking up because of all these silly arguments and pointless fights, but the fact at the end of the day, is they're in love.
Which is explains in the "Flag" metaphor.
I also love how it starts with "walk away" and end in "don't walk away". definetely reflects the mixed emotions and wantings during an argument.
"we both lose to win"
I love that line so much, and when you fight with a lover, that needs to be kept in mind. You win the fight, yes, but you might lose the ultimate battle. Good stuff. |

The whole song sounds like an attempt to get back with her, or at least the wanting to, but then the ever-so-famous "If you don’t like being hurt then please don’t stay", makes me think otherwise. Or at least think that there is more to it than the simple wanting to get back with someone. |

I really like how a lot of people came to the conclusion that it was of a bitter end to a relationship. I agree completely. I think it was his fault. And I believe he's trying to do the right thing now by not forcing her, or putting her through absolute hell just for his 'selfish' desire.
