This songs a meaning full song about our live and haw we need Gods Love through darkness. "But I feel safe behind the firewall" firewall = God The songs a very honest voice about teen life and to me self harm. its almost emo. Its about haw when we are at our lowest the only way out is to see that we are in need of god as we are "broken" without him. Its a slap round the face for christians who are loosing there contact with god. makes you realise. that your slipping. its also a reminder that gond wont leave us and sometimes we go through these stages so god can teach us |

To me this is the christians protest song. U2 used the song after they sing "Sunday Bloody Sunday" live. They also use the chrus during the song. As a question on haw long were going to have to wait for violence to stop. "40" is a protest song for christians to say to other people "haw long" must we keep telling everyone the same truths the same facts. "Haw long to sing this song." Its also a question to god. When are you comming when will we see your face and grace. Until then give us strength and put us on a rock. "He set my feet upon a rock And made my footsteps firm Many will see Many will see and fear" And I'm a little confussed. the beads bono carries with him and places on his mike are prayer beads that the pope gave him. And the song Yaweh that i think "Theresa1" refeenced at one stage "At the last show I attended, Portland, I eye-witnessed this song being performed right after U2 blasphemed God's name Yahweh to the extreme again, by showing yet another mass of people huge lit-up idolatrous and spiritistic symbols while singing "Yahweh." All these things are metaphors for asking god to change atridutes to make us better to shape us to the people we want to be. |

i think the corus has a double meaning. That sounds like a cheep way out but if you look. At the rest of the song it makes sences. at some stages its a reply to mans cry for help. God saying i won't help you till you help yourselves. So wake up and look around. "Listen....playing out of time." That whole verse is about listening. Then the other verses are a plea for help and the trinity to aid us. namely jesus who intodays society is seen as dead. This song is a prayer for the world. For christians to pray for gods grace. Move on from the swearing. Its a fact the world is "fucked-up" part of the point of the swear word in the song it to make a descussion on the point of the swear word. to make people look and go yes it is. don't like the way its put but it is. We're not ment to like the way its put. Just like we're not ment to like the way the world is |

It's also a comment on the fact that during a war all that heard about is this war and the second the shooting stops everyone leaves and nothings heard about it after. when the people there still suffer. we turn out attention back to our bumbeling politicians and celebrities. |
