| Alex Clare – Too Close Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Not very deep, but it is about a guy who has realized he wants to move on, but is struggling to let go without causing damage. Even so much as struggling with the concept of which is right between staying in the relationship and getting out. I agree with you about the dubstep feel...if you like this, you will like the hook in the song, otherwise it will get overlooked. Great sounding commercial for the new Internet Explorer, but I am not sure the lyrics are the message they want to convey. | |

| Another fine example of how Martin Gore has the ability to see things from a perspective of absolute clarity. Having been a child that went through divorce I would have liked to think that my parents thought this way, but I don't believe they did. It is an ugly process, and in families with children there is unavoidable collateral damage. In a way only Gore can craft, his plea to God is groundshaking. I hope if you have a master plan, that you are seeing the result of what you have created through the eyes of the innocent that are sentenced to live through the strife. That is absolute revelation that he understands the situation his children find themselves in. If Martin Gore had lived and died a long time ago, no doubt he would be held in the same breath of some of the poets and literaries that the world holds dear today. | |

| This is 10 million times better prose than most of the crap being taught in English lit classes. It is also very relevant. Enjoy your youth, for the rest is marching to the other side. | |

First, I think this song sounds like the pen of Trent Reznor, but Billy also has the ability to write clever lyrics about pain. I think this is an attempt for Billy to come to terms with his lack of faith and openly express his anger towards God. The title, Bullet with Butterfly Wings I see as a description for God in the embodiment of an angel (literally to one that has no faith, as dangerous as a bullet but with wings of a butterfly sending a cool, calm message amongst the rigors of living a distraught life in a cruel world). Now to the song. The lyric "Jesus was the only son for you" is a direct line to God saying that the writer will never be a son of God, and possibly that he believes we (humans) technically all are not truly sons of God. The Earth, which God has placed us on, is a vampire sent to drain. God took his only son back and left a lifeless, soul-sucking world for the rest of us. This is very powerful and aligns directly with the chorus line. "Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage". The only way for a lab rat to make it out of the cage is to die, which at times can seem better than living in a cruel world. This is almost a suicide anthem, and a final realization for those that think, "no matter what I do, things will not get better." "I still believe that I cannot be saved" only serves to drive the finality of the conclusion that death is the only way out and hope is futile. Even more to this point are the lines but you can fake it for just one more show and what do you want, i want to change and what have you got when you feel the same even though i know-i suppose i'll show all my cool and cold-like old job Faking your happiness, living your miserable life with an outward optimism is the lie that you are faced with persuing when you strive for change, but things never do. You will keep your face, and your cool, cold attitude just like you have your entire life...and that is all your life will ever be. This individual truly cannot be saved. |

The line If God has a master plan That only He understands I hope it's your eyes He's seeing through just seems so depressing to whoever he is talking to. Man, if even God is against you, what else do you have? |

| I agree with Razormac. I think DM is taking the opportunity to bash those (not just Bush) who use the Bible, epecially revelations to support aggression. "All he ever gives us is pain" is a great line to implicate the poetry of revelations and the influence it has had on wars in the course of human history. | |
