I think this song parallels Dave's frustration to the frustration that he perceives Jesus would feel looking down on what has been done in His name. Dave "preaches" love, love, love...but the fans go more crazy when he swears or makes a drug reference than when he trys to make a humanitarian point. If there is a God, a caring God, then we have to figure he's done an extraordinary job of making a very cruel world." ......you and I and Dave know that man is to blame for the cruelty in the world, he's doing what he can to try to change it, what are you doing? |

| To me, this song is about how mankind has messed up the planet, ignored the message of Jesus Christ and is complacent about it. The son isn't trying to undo what the father did because the father did bad, the son is bad and is trying to undo something good. The part about the secret and the truth alludes to how Christianity as a religion, through men, distorted the message of Christ for its own gains. That said, I would then say that Dave has written several songs so well that they are actually about multiple things at once. People say that Dave doesn't "believe in God", I seriously think that it's mankind that Dave doesn't "believe in". | |
