Hey, ivoandreas: how about you go and fuck yourself? I was only posing my own interpretation to the song, to which I am certainly entitled, and I apologize for any arrogance, as that was not intended. But you certainly need to watch with your hypocrisy because you totally outdid my "arrogance" and threw in a heaping amount of condescension. Get your head out of your ass. Thank you butcherbaker for responding in a civil manner (you'd expect Europeans like ivoandreas, the creators of "civilization," to behave less like savages). I do see the personal meaning behind this song, but the last line, for which butcherbaker's interpretation doesn't account, is what still gives me the impression that this is about the current status of the USA. "Montezuma to Tripoli" is a CLEAR allusion to the Marines' Hymn. Say what you want here, but you're wrong ivoandreas. Now that we've established this connection, the rest of the song fits well into a description of the current state of America. How it is in disarray, how it is corrupt and broken, and how it serves the will of corporations and the rich instead of fulfilling the ideas laid out by the Founding Fathers a long time ago. I may have stated the connections in a vague and poorly thought out manner, but I was writing it off the top of my head and was still a little high at the time. I took a little liberty in my expression that "we've outgrown the european way of life" for sure. Whether or not outgrown is the right word choice, people certainly arrived in North America as Europeans, and evolved into Americans over time. The resulting American way of life is the one to which I refer. And if you've taken any courses on modern history you will know that this way of life, an American ideology, is the one that shaped the world most from late 1800's until today. That is what I mean by outgrowing the European way of life." And Mainten, whose dick you apparently love to suck, also says that my interpretation has merit. So once again, go fuck yourself ivoandreas and learn to accept that there can be multiple valid explanations of the same thing. |

| "at Innisfree" is the correct lyric for anything that you have "added it's free" or "adding it's free". Change it! how can it even possibly sound like "adding"? | |

ok who's with me that this song is about someone's experience on DMT? let me provide some support here: geometric patterns are the most common effect hallucinated while on DMT. that fact that the "dress" is gleaming white also lends itself to a hallucination. also DMT is a substance which cause such intense experiences that it is natural that "as old as [he gets he] will never forget it at all" and that it will always be "just as [he recalls]." that is the strongest support for my claim, but the rest of the song is interesting when applied to this theory Innisfree is a recurring theme and what is Innisfree? in the real world it is a lake of some sort in ireland. however in the poem which popularized Innisfree by William Butler Yeats it is an imaginary utopia that encompasses all the desires and dreams an individual has. it emphasizes a natural existence based in agriculture, of which robin pecknold is fond. so this Innisfree is where the person is during his DMT experience. and while he is there, the sirens are his sheer joy and pleasure at the experience. they are literally "driving [him] over the stern" of his existence, as he wants to reach their island (Innisfree) faster than his ship (reality). he didn't know something so beautiful could exist. there is also a lot about borrowing, taking, returning, and this resonates with my idea about being in and out of reality. in the sense of this DMT experience, he borrows reality, taking it with the expectation not to return. his experience also validates this because he does not necessarily want to return, he's at his Innisfree. however all that is good must end and he does in fact return his reality, and the disparity between reality and his reality are great and probably upsetting. he is now left with a debt; a debt both to his body because he has "borrowed all [his] life" so the substance has taken a toll on mind and body, and ultimately his existence (soul) for ever having known and loved Innisfree. it's not real and but yet it still haunts him, and it's not easy for him to look back on it. and in a dual sense the sirens of real life are driving him out of his mind. he cannot put up with the inferiority of reality and longs for Innisfree woooo i enjoy this interpretation. let me know what you think |

i love how no one comments except to correct everything, which is okay, but seriously, this is song meanings lets delve into some meaning. i think it's pretty clear that this is about the USA. how we've outgrown the european way of life and really changed the world with out american ideology. we have a dream that is just and good but it is hardly ever realized anymore. i think the part about foreign excess is from his point of view. since america is the queen of excess, the foreign part is every other person who lives excessively and he shall endure it as he sees it making slaves of people and he hopes to return to an agrarian way of life. he and all people who think similarly. there's the possibility of regaining honor and prestige for our nation (the faces on murals on church ceilings) and it's also possible that it will continue to deteriorate away and form cracks. and whatever happens it will be due to the people of america, whether they work to redeem it or do nothing. but it's probable the latter will happen, and in the process people will lose everything. and the people in power will take it all with them to their graves, and they will also take all the good that america once stood for. unless of course the "wandering mind" of america is run away and it gets its shit together. the montezuma to tripoli put me on this train of thought, and although its pessimistic, i think the song supports it and its also pretty realistic. thoughts? comments? |

yea you should probably wait till the album officially drops to put lyrics up. we can all see how big of a fan you are, but your version is outdated a lot. kanye has added a whole string section with lyrics minus the auto-tune, really taking this song in a nice direction. and whose to say that the version i has is the final one. but this album is awesome and probably his best. im really not liking the people who say his new direction is bad just cause hes rappin about different shit. his job as an artist is to produce what he sees fit to, not what some people want. |

| This song I think is the best on this album. The Spanish really sounds good. There are corrections though to the lyrics. It says "volviendo en pas" but it should really say "dormiendo en paz" - sleeping in peace. | |

| This is a pretty good song and by the male and female vocals, I think the meaning is obvious. I'm not doing a good job at interpreting, but I get that feeling that this is about a guy and a girl. The guy likes the girl, and vice-versa, but the guy never says anything. The girl decides to leave him behind. | |

This a very good song. I think the song personifies a childhood relationship, but as they grew up, they drifted apart. Only one of the two still loved the other. If any one is into the anime thing, there is a good story that goes along with this song here: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3039916/1/ It's pretty good. |
