| Simon and Garfunkel – A Poem On The Underground Wall Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think that this song is about a person who commits suicide. "Shadowed by the exit light His legs take their ascending flight To seek the breast of darkness and be suckled by the night." I think that those last few lines are suggesting that the man jumps in front of the train. And that his suicide note simply reads, one of those beautiful 4-letter words. "Sh*t" or "F*ck" Does anyone have a different interpretation of the ending of this song? I suppose that the person could make the ascending flight up the stairs and out of the underground... |

| I just wanted to add that the Gladys Knight & The Pips song that he refers to in this song is called, "Midnight Train To Georgia." There are many obvious parallels in the stories told by each song. - Check it out. | |
| Garth Brooks – Standing Outside The Fire Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I believe that this song is somewhat a homage to Johnny Cash's (June's lyric's actually), "Ring of Fire." That song, is mostly about falling in love and likewise into an inescapable 'ring of fire.' With this song the lyrics also seem to imply that there is a ring of fire. If you are inside the ring of fire, you may be called weak or a fool, but you are, at the very least, a fool in love. People who fall truly in love and into this ring of fire stand the chance of getting burned, pun intended. Those who stand outside the flame, and do not fall in love, but play it cool - which to me translates to a person who will never get close to someone or will fuck anything that comes along, or an assortment of other common stereotypes that fall into the, 'not in love' category - are more likely to not get burned, pun intended, again, sort of. At the same time, these people, according to the song, really haven't lived if they haven't loved. Yeah, I think that's all of my thoughts on this particular song. |
