| Honestly, I'm posting this up for grabs. Back in 1983, there was a movie by the name of Rumble Fish. It's about a highschool tough guy who finds himself at a bar, getting caught in "rumbles". I think that the lyrics reflect the feelings in the movie of the lead character. "Step down on the slivering snake" is probably a metaphor for getting into a fight you don't want to be in.
