Muse – Soldier's Poem Lyrics 19 years ago
ok, another idea here:
it's a comparison between an AMerican soldier and Iraq civilian:

Iraqi (speaking towards his fellow Iraqis):
Throw it all away/The world is all against us
Lets lose ourselves/What should we do? -> anger -> terror
Cause theres no one left for us to blame/Can't blame people in our land, because all are poor
Its a shame we're all dying/ ...
And do you think you deserve your freedom?/ (Towards the American soldier)

American (to America):How could you send us all far away from home?/Why are we doing this? why can't they help themselves, why isn't Bush here, why am I?
When you know damn well that this is all?/The government knows, they can't bring peace to this countries
I would still lay down my life for you./But as I am proud AMerican I wouldn't question and do what they want

Iraqi:And do you think you deserve your freedom?/what did the American himself do for it?
No I dont think you do!/he was just lucky to be born there

Both:Theres no justice in the world
Theres no justice in the world
And there never was

This is _so_ totaly about bush!

This is all you ever wanted to throw at him.

I LOVE this song.

And they don't name him directly because then the song would loose its touch. Like the difference between a movie where two lovers come hand in hand out of a room, she slingering slightly and a hardcore porn. I's something about style!

si, fully agree with that one!

in my german enviroment, I could also see parallels to Hitler and his Nazis who build the 1000 year lasting German Empire ;-) which of course was jsut delusional, too. well don't really wanna see this connection, but maybe this seems so, because there are parallels between ... dont mind ;-)

I think, its critics on America! Why Ok, let me try to explain.
We got this Marching beat all the time (daap daap dapdop daap) seeming really military. So yes, it's about aliens first. landing on earth bringing us religious "advice". Now strangely this new aliens giving religious leardership to our world have quite some good contacts to our political leaders, which can't defie them, because theyd otherwise be killed or kicked from their position. Soo. and now imagine, how a citizen of a country invaded/freed by the US must feel. They are told, whats right or wrong, maybe US also spread catholism (dont really know) in the Islam countries. So they are taking away all the lands traditions, etc. And how should a little working class man understand that? And why doesn't his leader explain it to him? So all in all the song is about the world ignoring the normal people in the invaded countries. they are not asked, if they want to be "freed". And they are not shown in news either. you only hear about the good soldiers and the bad soldiers and of course about the polititians.

DOn't know, if this song should be making feeling me happy. it's quite sad. maybe it's about raves? the technostyle fast beat in the background led me to that idea. it could be about all people getting high together. taking drugs and getting their life sucked out by them without noticing.

However, Muse is _uber_, best Band I know. And I too have witnessed, that Muse isn't thast popular. I know some people, who have knowledge in music (and id add me there too) who really love Muse and everybody, who hears 3+ songs of them starts to love em. But strangely Muse isn't even played in radio or really going public here in Germany.

I think its about the relation between the soldier, the country and the government. The soldier like many others doesn't really trust his goverment and is some kind of pissed about all the polititians but nevertheless, he goes to war, because he does it for his country and the wellbeing of all people living there and because all those people decided to send him to war. Wonder, if it's ironic and a little at bash towards democracy.

I think this is about a student sitting there with his exam paper. He panics, is desolated and despair, all he should know is swept away and he can't just run. And despite the fact, that he's just mentally incapable of graduating, he refuses to "let go" and do osmething else.
