the song is just so upbeat, i have heard time seeing it as a "wahhh heartache" song. like iamsorry said, the person doesn't want to change who they are because they love what they've been doing. |

Just want to say that while brandnew1208's lyrics are easier to read, the ending is wrong. It's "He won't leave you," not "he will leave you." A small error, but one that changes the meaning of the song if unknown. |

I know RS ripped the lyric "Soldiers, you’ve got to soldier on/ Sometimes even right is wrong" after Violet Hill when they sing "I don't want to be a soldier/Who the captain of some sinking ship/Would stow far below," but don't see these lyrics to have conflicting messages.
In Violet Hill, he says he wouldn't want to be sacrificed as a higher-up tries to save themself. Everyone should own up to their mistakes and take charge when they have to. Here, I think when he says "sometimes even right is wrong" he's talking about desertion. Even if you're fighting in a war you don't believe in, you owe it to those around you to stay the course and help them. In other words, what's worse: fighting for something you don't believe in, or leaving others to suffer because you don't believe? |

apparently this song originally had words, and critics started to hail it as the next single. Martin and the others then decided just to screw with them and remove the vocal track. i've also heard they will release a vocal version eventually. |

The empathy the song has makes it that much greater. Everyone can relate to the desire to do just one thing right for a night, to impress everyone and be on the top of their game. Oh yeah, and Bloc Party absolutely rules, so that doesn't hurt it.
I'm really happy the song turned out so well. Lately it seems like many bands have a decent debut then fade away; that clearly won't happen to Bloc Party. |
