98 Degrees – The Hardest Thing Lyrics 19 years ago
THis is a very powerful song, believe it or not. It is not about cheating. It is not about affairs. THis song is about the blowback of relationships. It is about the responsibility it takes to love someone and take care of them. The song takes place after an intense breakup, and the singer has found a new lover. His new lover is wonderful, with few faults, and she has probably done nothing wrong. Except for one thing. Perhaps her best friend is the singer's old lover. She has chosen to ruin her friendship because she has fallen in love. And as the new relationship continues, the singer comes to find that he misses his old lover. And now he is deciding that he must leave his new relationship not because she did anything wrong at all, but it is all because of him. ANd it is very hard to do because now he has broken another heart. Now he has to watch another woman break down crying and he has to be strong and hold off emotion. He still has love for her, but he can't give it to her because it would be a lie to himself and his old lover. He has to be cruel to be kind. He has to let her go before he does something foolish, such as having an affair with his ex. He is breaking up because he is obligated to take care of his old lover. He can't let go, and therefore he is in a Catch-22. He can't love both of them. He can't take care of both women in the same way. If he had to choose, he would choose his older relationship because it has history taht would haunt him forever if he didn't try and bring it back. He is a man who does not know how to let go, does not know how to stop caring. It is what brings him heartache no matter what. Even when he gets back with his old lover, he will then start caring and missing his new relationship. Heartbreaking.

John Mayer – George's Blues Lyrics 19 years ago
Hahahaha. John Mayer is probably one of the most dry musicians you'll ever hear. How does someone pull something off like this? He sounds so serious in this song, yet it's a joke. All of it. Also, this solo is heavily influenced by SRV. It is easy to see that there would be no John Mayer without SRV. Listen to Rivera Paradise and you will see that John Mayer is a reincarnation of the Texas bluesician. Great stuff.

John Mayer – Come Back To Bed Lyrics 19 years ago
One of the most underrated John Mayer songs, and one of my personal favorites. I liked John Mayer's music and appreciated him as an artist but I did not realize that he was a competent guitar player until this song. This song was the spark that aroused my interest and curiosity into Mr. Mayer. THis is his first legitimate blues song. What is fascinating is how he was able to incorporate his pop lyrics into a blues song that I found out later was also a tribute to one of his idols, Buddy Guy. Yes, the lyrics are wonderful and carry a lot of meaning behind them. But John Mayer knows that his lyrics are golden and does not believe himself completely. These lyrics are about John admitting that he is not stronger than the woman he is with when it comes to holding off. He is not able to deal with his partner's cold shoulder and ignorance. He is also identifying with a man's physical craving of sex; the idea that fights can be fixed by screwing your brains out hours later and then falling asleep only to wake up and fight again. He realizes this, and he is not fighting it. He's not asking for his lady to be happy again. He's just asking her to stay long enouigh so he can know that she's there for him to touch and thus reassure himself that he hasn't ruined everything completely just yet. There are two ways to look at this song as it is very deeply layered. It is a very sad song, a song that takes place right before a break up, righit before the shit hits the fan. But it also a song about a man who knows his weaknesses, and even though he knows what he must improve on, he isn't willing to try. He's only begging for a temporary treatment that will make him feel better for a while. "Don't hold your love over my head" is a beautiful ending, and probably one of the best moments in the album. Such a sad and brutally honest song. Listen to it live. Austin City Limits with Buddy Guy is incredible. Guitar solo at the end is John Mayer's truly honest version of it. After he's done begging (don't hold your love), he does what every man does...gets extremely pissed off and gets over it. Hence, a very intense guitar solo. Thank you, John Mayer.
