"finally I understand the feelings of the few. ashes and diamonds, foe and friend, we were all equal in the end." I LOVE THAT PART OF THIS SONG. It makes an excelent rhyme, and the way in which roger sings it makes it really depressing, powerful and special. |

To me, it's about someone who's falling in love with a friend, and even though he knows what he should do (And if I were a good man I'd talk with you more often than I do / I'd understand the spaces between friends) he just can't because he's not perfect (if i was a swan i'd be gone, if i was a train i'd be late, etc) So he's thinking about possible situations (And if I were with you i'd be home and clean), but knows that he's not brave enough to do something else than think and hypotetize, so he becomes afraid of going mad, and, even if he were to become insane, he wouldn't want to change. (If I go insane, please don't put your wires in my brain) So, he accepts he just can't do anything about the situation. |

| I think it's about someone who believes he's a great person (could be a friend or a partner). So, he tries to make decisions for this other person, based on whatever he thinks happiness is, his own "elysium". But this person doesn't notice that the other one has a different vision of happiness and life. So, in the end, this tired person says that it's him who is wrong. | |

Why do we always try to find a 'christian' hint? I think it's a dark love song. And if you're a non-believer, it doesn't mean you're demonic... If you don't believe in god, why should you believe in the devil???... I think believe in the dark side of life, that's all. I feel represented, maybe cos I usually fall in love in that way.. |
