Love this song!! Although they themselves stated that it means nothing and that they were high when it was written, there is undoubtedly meaning in the first lines 'How many special people change/How many lives are living strange.' soooo true. |

This is one of my favourite songs off the whole album. When it says 'listenin' to the salad days' I think this means that he wants to remain youthful as 'salad days' refers to the time when a person is young or during their 'heyday'
I like the line 'The Catholic girls love him in a hundred million different ways' as this may refer to Catholics having to follow rules and these girls like Vince because he is different and by being constantly stoned, obviously doesn't conform to their type of guidelines.

Yeh i agree. To expand on the 'read me your scripture and I will twist it' I was thinking that it might point to how people want to know about different religions (scripture) so on the surface they seem interested in someone elses beliefs but then they find things 'wrong' with it, and point to the contradictions in the religion. So in this sense, people want others to teach them about their scriptures only for them to 'twist' it.

Yeh I can see what you mean about the Oasis sound.
This song is so beautiful and I really don't understand why it wasn't put on the album. I've always thought that Soul to Squeeze in this song means that your spirit is being constricted because of all of the bad things in the world. It's like you can't grow the way that you want, your essence and character is changed because of the shit, this might be drugs, peer pressure, temptation, fear of being unique. |

This song makes me cry! It's so powerful both lyrically and musically and it really makes you think.
I think that the term 'Under the Bridge' can be interpreted into everyone's lives. We all have our 'Under the Bridge' moments, whether this is actually physically being under a bridge (as is Anthony's case) or just sitting alone and feeling depressed about what's going on in your life.
I'm probably just talking crap lol, but that's what I think. |

I love this song and it is amazing live. I think that the reason for using an upbeat tempo for a sad topic is because although we know that all of this shit is happening around us, we seem to mask it and try to forget about it, pretend that it is not there.
As for the 'Cain and Abel' line, the only thing I can think of is that in the autobiography 'Scar Tissue', AK described him and Flea as like Cain and Abel. |
