Immortal Technique – Dance With The Devil Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't know how anyone could not appreciate this song. My dad walked in the room when I was playing it and he said, "Who's mutilating Love Story?" Old people.

The Dead Milkmen – Silly Dreams Lyrics 19 years ago
Hey, I believe they threw up for "hours and hours and hours and hours", not just "hours and hours."

The last three lines are sad sad sad.

Band of Horses – The First Song Lyrics 19 years ago
They sound like The Shins.

Kind of.

Violent Femmes – Country Death Song Lyrics 19 years ago
Such a darkly humorous song. I'm not really concerned with the historical aspect, although it is interesting, and I thank you, aczinke, for sharing. I just like the song.

The Shins – We Will Become Silhouettes (Postal Service cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
I love the Shins, but this is a bad cover of a good song. I love the Postal Service's version too much to like this one.

Besides, TPS's video for this was my very first exposure to indie rock, so I have great appreciation for it.

The Decemberists – A Cautionary Song Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with everyone who says this song is taken too seriously. Listen to the beginning of the third verse and TELL ME Colin isn't smiling. He just sounds amused to me. This isn't a heavy song.

Leonard Cohen – Chelsea Hotel Lyrics 19 years ago
According to Colin Meloy, this is the "sexiest song ever".

The Decemberists – Song for Myla Goldberg Lyrics 19 years ago
Colin Meloy met Myla Goldberg at a book reading she was doing with a friend of his in Portland. Since Colin is from Portland, he showed her around a bit. He thought she was pretty okay, and that she deserved to have a song written about her. She doesn't remember ever meeting him.

Sufjan Stevens – Casimir Pulaski Day Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm sorry, Relapser, but I think you couldn't be further from the truth.

The point of the song is that God does exist, but sometimes He doesn't make sense, and sometimes "He takes and He takes and He takes." But that doesn't mean He doesn't exist.

Beautiful song, by the way. Tears me up.

She Wants Revenge – Tear You Apart Lyrics 19 years ago
Eh, they sound like Interpol. Or a lot of bands from the 80's.

Bright Eyes – Poison Oak Lyrics 19 years ago
Heard this song was about his cousin, Collin, who was a heroin addict and committed suicide.

And while that's a very personal thing to sing about, the song can still be interpreted to mean a lot of different things. A good artist allows anyone to relate to his art.

Bright Eyes – An Interview with Conor Oberst Lyrics 19 years ago
I love when he calls it "avant sad-sad" in the background. I only just heard that a couple days ago, although I first heard this song/interview/whatever a year or so ago. Cracks me up every time.

Radio: That’s interesting. Now you mentioned your depression.
Conor: No I didn’t.
Radio: You’re from Nebraska, right?
Conor: Yeah, so?

Sufjan Stevens – The Seer's Tower Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay, it's not about Mormons. Sorry. It's just not.

Seer could refer to any type of prophet, not just Joe Smith. From a Christian point of view, this song is prety obviously about the apocalyse and that - "I see the end", Emmanuel (Jesus) dividing his true believers, et cetera. hi_fidelity pretty much hit it on the head. The Seers Tower and The Sears Tower and The Tower of Babel, they're all the same.
