In the summer of 2008 i listened to this song on bixby canyon bridge. we sat there for about 3 hours throwing rocks into the ocean. later that night we tried to see how much further we could go down the route but were eventually asked to turn around by the local authorites because of the damage from the wildfires that were affecting the area. this was the single best moment of the trip.. everything i could want. the song eerily left our car as we sat on the bonnet taking pictures laughing and talking about the kinds of things people do im from england, this was my first time to america and this song sealed the deal thanks dcfc |

i dunno if its me putting emphasis on things but i totally thought this song was about date rape. the guy is out for one thing and when mos def comes in its almost like he is trying to justify the action. i also thought the line "I thought I'd be with you for only one night Now I'm with this girl for the rest of my life" meant that he eventually had to deal with the consequences of his actions. plus the whole general trippiness of the song making it sound all hazy and where they say (A lil sippy sippy) created this idea i got a pretty overreactive imagination but i found this song creepy as hell |

this song to me always reminds me of the girl in the club that lets the guys get all over her. shes so deprived for attention she has know idea what some of the men could be capable of. "Mistake this bloodlust feast for dancing" to the point that the singer observes that its like prey on the jungle floor surrounded by cobras. basically she seems so easy to take advantage of that even the singer considers for a second the things she could do |

i love how smean and spiteful this song is. the opening few lines make it sound like your run of the mill love son : Met a girl, introduced myself I asked her to go with me and no one else And she said, "I’d really like to see you everyday But I’m afraid of what my friends might say and then the song just takes a really mean turn and poor old brendan basically gets berated and insulted by her and her friend. girls can be mean sometimes |

i found mrwuggs explanation extremely disturbing. do you have any links to back up your theory i.e. are there any biographys of jeff mangum or anything. its odd once you stated that theory i can't listen to the song in the same way. it also made me think about the last line "but don't hate her when she gets up to leave" whilst i know nothing of jeff's life it made me think that it could refer to his mother. maybe she was there througout all of jeffs trauma but did nothing. maybe she loved his father to much. like i said i don't know about jeffs life.....now i feel sick (read the guys comment on page 2) |
