| This Providence – Waste Myself Lyrics | 17 years ago |

For the beginning of the song I’m reminded of a quote from House; “That’s what life is. It's a series of rooms and who we get stuck in those rooms with adds up to what our lives are.” Being “on the roof of a prison” as it’s put, it’s just a place, and what are you going to make of the situation of being on that roof? How about lie beneath the stars or watch a thousand passing cars with the one you’re in love with at that moment? Who cares what you’re doing, you’re both doing it together and making the most of it. I don’t think its necessarily a song where he’s been hurt as it is more of an idea of being so high on love, or in this case set on fire. “Set on fire” insinuates warmth. Love is warmth. As for any other lines that normally sound like they’re talking about something bad (ex: I can’t seem to find hope in this situation, love) I think it just adds to the idea of being so high on love and not having a way out of it. You can’t help who you love, and can’t really get out of that predicament. The chorus is obvious. You’d give anything up for the person you love. Even if it meant dying. |

| Hey b2thedizzle89, I just thought it was kinda interesting/funny how your interpretation was much like Stephan's actual meaning behind the song. "He was called the patron saint of lost causes because his book tells a lot of how we need faith when we go through tough times in our lives." You should check out his blog on April 04. Theres quite a bit more meaning behind it than the complete Christian meaning you give it. Given it IS mostly about religious renewal, theres other points in his life where he could use the analogy of "patron saint of lost causes" check it out! | |

This song quite frankly, is a reflection on past relationships and how he has handled them. He regrets how he's acted in the past (things are gonna change for the better...). He wants to work on how he handles these situations in the future in a more Christian light(I am the patron saint of lost causes...(Change)... Only a matter of time...). the second verse coould very well talk about how he wants to bring God into his life more and help him with this. this is his "prelude to a lifetime of you." Dismantle and repair could simply be what God does to him; Picks him apart and sees exaclty who he is and with (God's) help, he can be repaired. Much of this can be seen in the lyrics but it takes a bit of digging to figure out exactly what (Stephan) is getting at. Figure it out for yourself in his blog (he wrote an entry before he wrote this song and it inspired him to write a song about it). http://modesty.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html |

| one of those instrumentals that should be in a movie. makes me think about re-evaluating myself and putting things into perspective. not sure why. I love the vinyl sound to the song too. | |

This song reminds me of that awkward situation you have with a past lover. Your the one who wanted to be alone, that trust between you two is broken (the waters bleed...), your searching for something better (reading peoples wishes...), and yet at the same time your contemplating your decision. That person made you feel so good, "younger" as the song sings. they're everything that you've wanted. You know that the situation between you two isn't "secure." you want that person to tell you how they feel, perhaps confirm your own feelings (Now don't be shy, choke...). Your still "holding on," and perhaps hoping for that small glimpse of hope that the person will forgive you for your stupidity and take you back. that the person isn't satisfied with how it is now. you "want to keep this thing alive." |
