| Steve Ouimette – The Devil Went Down To Georgia Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I also saw this song as more of a stab at human arrogance. While all humans are arrogant in some ways, some people's talents arise above their well-deserved arrogance. Anyone have any idea where teh song that Johnny sings came from? And also I thought it was, "hell's broke loose in Georgia and the Devil deals the cards." |

| Joshua Radin – Winter Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this song. I too saw it first in Scrubs, and, I too, had tears brought to my eyes. The song just captures the mood and feeling of a loss with great ease and really just turns emotion into song. Whenever I deal with a loss of anything, I turn on this song and it just makes me feel so much better. | |
| Wolfmother – Woman Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I love the guitar riffs in this song, very reminiscient of Led Zepplin as well as everyone already mentioned. AS far as the actual content of the song, I get the feeling that it's just a generic hard rock love song. However, as with most Wolfmother songs, one line sticks with me: "Well You're kinda looking at me Like I've got to set you free You know I can't free nobody" (I know it should be "I can't be nobody" but this sounds better. They should change it.) This just gives a sense of hopelessness and shows that the "Woman" is the only one that can "free"/"be" somebody. |

| Guster – Lightning Rod Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
this song has always seemed reminiscent to me of two things: war and moses. War is evident in both verses, specifically the part about "remaining an honest soldier" and "swimming in adrenaline/the sky is caving in". The latter bit has reminded me of bombers and fighters raging overhead, artillery fire, etc. And it seems to be told from the perspective of a lowly soldier, who is in desperate fear of losing his life, yet will fight till he's dead. It also reminds me of the Biblical tale of Moses atop Mount Sinai, receiving the Ten Commandments. It is written that God carved the Commandments into the stone with lightning, hence, I believe "I'm a lightning rod". However, "standing on a building" kinda kills that... |

| David Bazan – Cold Beer and Cigarettes Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
He does, in fact, have children, a little girl around 2 i think. However, I do disagree with the whole bio thing. This song just packs a powerful punch anyway. I love the part of "She's calling security Our car's on fire in the parking lot And nobody wants it to rain But God isn't listening So all of the windshields glisten The water and oil mix Causing the fire to spread To five or six innocent automobiles Waiting in their nearby spots What a cruel God we've got" It's just a joke in the middle of a song. I don't know why it's so good, but he just sings it just right. |

| He changes the lyrics in a lot of acoustic versions. | |
| The Beatles – Revolution 9 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Whoever mentioned it on the first page or second page, about "I am Sam," you're right. But there are so many different reasons for the number 9 in John Lennon's life... it gets creepy. There's a complete list at http://www.beatlelinks.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9475, or at least the most complete list I've found. Also, the most interesting and creepy one... John Lennon's mother died when he was 9. OK? The car that killed him had the license plate "KLF 630". 6+3=9, and also, the one that's even more of a stretch, K is the 11th letter in the alphabet, then l is 12th, and f is 6th. K(11)-{L(12)/F(6)}=9 11-2=9 Believe me? There's probably hundreds of them. And referencing the "I am Sam" line, it's the fact that he lived at 9 Castleview Road, Liverpool. 9, 9 letters in castleview and liverpool. And it's not "fuck that shit," it's "block that kick." Why do people always assume it's dirty? Anywho, I've blogged about this at iamthewalrusgoogoogjoob.blogspot.com/index.html |

| Wolfmother – Vagabond Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Ahhh.... there enlies the irony, similar to "Lady Madonnah". | |
| The Beatles – Revolution 1 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I blogged all about this song and "Revolution 9". It's interesting how often the Beatles incorporate a "revolution" theme into their songs. Although "I am the Walrus" (by far my favorite song) is mostly gibberish and nonsensical phrases, much of it refers to a revolution, and "Piggies" can also have an argument for it. | |
| The Beatles – Good Morning Good Morning Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This only struck me the other day as I was dozing off to sleep, playing music in my head ("Lady Madonna"?) but I realized something... obviously, it couldn't have ever been intended but: "Nothing to do to save his life call his wife in Nothing to say but what a day how’s your boy been Nothing to do it’s up to you" This, sick and strangely comparative as it may sound, reminds me of the 9/11 cell calls home from the victims on the planes (RIP). Mull it over: nothing to do to save his life, call his wife in... the second line i cant compare it to... nothing to do its up to you... cmon, someone's gotta see it. |

| The Beatles – Piggies Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
since i have no intelligent background on this, im just gonna agree with subvert, tasteslikegold, and maggiebeatles. This song always seemed to me to prove to the world the fact that the beatles really never took themselves completely seriously. Think about it: a song by THE MOST celebrated and influential rock band ever writing about piggies in their starched white shirts. Also, I think that ericdawingnut needs a new keyboard. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Scientist Studies Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Just listening to the music and lyrics in this song, I have made numerous connections to one of Death Cab's favorite inspirations... the Beatles' "I Am the Walrus," the song that birthed my name in many places where my real name has no place. | |
| The Beatles – Yellow Submarine Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I apologize for possibly sounding naïve or stupid, but this song has always seemed communist to me... I don't know why, but something about "our firends are all aboard, many more of them live next door" just seems it to me. I didn't search for meaning; it just came as a fleeting thought, and after all, John was a Marx-ist, was he not? | |
| The Beatles – Paperback Writer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Thank you, BazBear... that's the most fun part of the song... the background singers are singing frére jacques. | |
| David Bazan – Fewer Broken Pieces Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| really? dude, that blows my mind. | |
| David Bazan – How I Remember Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Yaaaaaaaaay my first posted lyrics! Anywho, this song is yet another example of Bazan's amazing ability to write songs and tell stories. I don't know if there's any hidden meaning in here, but lines such as "then later plays them back as gospel fact" show the quality of lyrics that this man writes. |

| David Bazan – Backwoods Nation Lyrics | 19 years ago |

keggers is right, cabin is cabinet. This song is so obvious that if you don't get it, you're more than retarded. A very powerful, Dylan-esque political message. It's truly a great song, though it is old. |

| David Bazan – Selling Advertising Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I saw this man in concert, he is insanely good at what he does. As far as this song goes, it's mocking Christianity. Don't question me, he said it. He is a Christian, and he believes in Jesus and everything, but he thinks that everything about Christianity, especially heaven, is either bullshit or played up. The "Jew" line I find hilarious, being a Jewish 14 year old, and I always wonder, is the guy he's talking to a Jew? I mean, according to the first verse, he could be, and there happen to be more than a handful of Jews in the advertising business... | |
| Pedro the Lion – Discretion Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is one example of why David Bazan has been named one of the greatest living storytellers. Look at this... it's an entire story, but it fits perfectly into a song. A melody and beat have been applied, and now it's one of my favorite songs because of the awesome usages of the crescendos... and the keyboard. | |
| Pedro the Lion – I Do Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I've always felt that this song merely describes childbirth and what comes with it. Though there is happiness and pride of having a child, there is also the sadness of having to abandon everything you've ever hoped for to raise the child so that it can grow up well. Not that that stopped Bazan, he has a year-old daughter now. |

| Wolfmother – Vagabond Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song has always seemed to me to be inferring to a rape... "I found the answer lookin' in your eye," By looking at the horrified look on the girl's face, the speaker knew what had happened "Take away this lonely man soon he will be gone," The lonely man is the rapist in this equation "You don't need to know what I do all day, It's as much as I know watch it waste away," The speaker is saying that he knows what happened, but the girl doesn't need to know how "Cause I'll tell you everything about being free, Yes I can see you girl can you see me," I think this is how he saw the thing happen... "Put her in a mansion on top of the hill, Please don't make her do things against her will," The rape occuring Of course, it can also be a hooker, as in the "Roxeanne" song by the Police, which would explain the "the left one was a dancer" line. I just don't wanna retype this whole thing ;-D |

| Wolfmother – Mind's Eye Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I've always liked the line, "Transfixed upon the why," and I believe that it can have multiple explanations, the most obvious of which, and the one I believe, is that someone is focused on the "why" aspect of something, or the "why not" aspect of it... Any more ACTUAL interpretations? |
|
| Wolfmother – Joker & The Thief Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
That was really deep... seriously. But the "All the people that he sees in the night, Hold their dreams up to the light" line has always, to me, seemed like saying that their dreams are hollow; their fake, as if holding their dreams up to a light will yield (or won't) a watermark. This fits into both of y'all's theory of the rocker... they all want to be him, but those dreams either cannot happen or he's not exactly livin the high life like they think he is... Anyway, cheriokid and xim, thanks for shedding new light on this song for me! |

That picture that was mentioned earlier, in accordance to the "I saw a young girl/her body was burnin'" line, the picture is at the link below. http://www.speignerphoto.com/weblog/Napalm_girl.jpg This young girl's village in Vietnam had been bombed in order to eradicate the communists in South Korea. And she had to suffer. |
