Kenny Chesney – That's Why I'm Here Lyrics 19 years ago
To me, this song is all about how a man's alcohol addiction tore his family apart. He has now admitted and accepted that he has a drinking problem and is seeking help at a 12 step meeting and he wants his ex wife/girlfriend/SO there to support him. Beautiful song.

Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics 19 years ago
I believe this song is about his struggle to overcome an addiction to drigs/alcohol.

~"And she said 'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast"~

This part speaks of the struggle that some (most) go through when trying to overcome addiction 'they just can't kill the beast'...the beast represents their addiction

~"'Relax,' said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
but you can never leave!"~

This part, about 'checking out but never leaving'...once your an addict, you're ALWAYS an addict. You can 'check out" and be in recovery, but then you are a recovering addict, you can most likely NEVER go back to your substance of addiction because if you do, you'll most likely fall off the wagon again.

I believe that this song is about a woman whose father was physicially IN her life, but not emotionally.

Blue October – Hate Me Lyrics 19 years ago
When I first heard the song, I thought he was speaking to a girlfriend or a recent ex girlfriend, and then I listened closer to the answering machine message in the beginning and noticed that it was his mother on the answering machine. I viewed the video and with the lyrics and video combined it seemed as if he WAS in fact, apologizing to his mother about all he put her through with his addiction (to drugs or alcohol or possibly, both). I thought that his MOTHER had died because he goes to a cemetery in the end of the video. However, I think that HE is the one that is dead and he is "viewing" his life (from when he was alive) and how his life was with his mom. I believe that the song is meant for his mother and that he is "making his amends" to her for all she went through because of his addictions. The video makes it seem like he is dead and just going back through his childhood and life. He seems to be thanking his mother for the unconditional love she had for him throughout his addiction and he feels some guilt over that. Just my opinion though.
