I think the lyrics are wrong...I don't know if anyone else said so, but I think it's "Summer don't know me no more, he got mad, tiresome. He just let me low in myself." and "Lord, I'm fine." but I'm not completely sure..I think I got that from the Gorillaz myspace when I looked up the lyrics on their player. Also, I realize that this is the sequel to Feel Good Inc. because the helicopters were following Noodle and her island at the end of it. Um..I can't really figure out how to say it well, so I'll say it the way someone said to me when they saw the video. In 'Feel Good Inc.' the 3 guys are trapped in the world of debotchery and hedonism (Pursuit of or devotion to pleasure, especially to the pleasures of the senses. a.k.a. "Feel Good") that they have created for themselves. The male band members are adults, and as such have developed the ability to consciously take part in sin to make themselves feel good, but at the same time plunging themselves into a world of darkness. The lyrics make a statement about popular culture's ties to hedonism. In the video, 2D is desperatley making half efforts to escape his hedonisitc lifestyle. Noodle and her floating island are symbols of innocence and child-like wonder. Noodle is still young and can be content with life by simply taking pleasure in the simple things. She looks to 2D in an effort to help him escape, but he lacks the confidence and strength to do so. Instead, he slips back into the debotcheristic world and succumbs to it's control. NOW FOR PART 2! In 'El Manana' we see Noodle just hanging out all happy and junk on her floating island. She's reveling in the simplicity and innocence of her childhood. Flowers, sunshine, candy, and all that crap. However, her island is attacked by unknown men in helicopters. The floating island is ultimately destroyed. It catches on fire, falls apart, crashes into a canyon, and then a bomb is dropped on it. All while Noodle is inside. REALITY CHECK. Did anyone consider the fact that 'El Manana' is a continuation of 'Feel Good Inc?' After all, the helocopters were following her at the end of that video. The helicopters represent the harshness of reality that all adults have come to face with. The reality that so often destroys one's childhood when one is forced to grow up. Noodle isn't ten years old anymore, she's fourteen, that means she's growing up. The hedonistic, sin soldiers of Feel Good Inc have caught up with Noodle, forcing her to face the harsh reality of adulthood that is waiting right around the corner for her. Noodle's childhood is ultimately destroyed. I was a little disappointed that none of the male members were in the video. But that could be more symolism in the fact that the road to maturity is one that is often traveled alone. It could be that because the male members cannot return to their childhoods, it is all they can do to sit and wait for Noodle to join them in adulthood. (Quite the fan. o.o) |
