k alot of the posts are pretty old but its really annoying to me how because of the intro the song has something to do with cutting. and how people are like "i cut myself to this song." like its something to be proud of. i have a friend who cuts himself just cause its the "emo" thing to do. and he's done it in the art room with razorblades and he doesn't even cut deep. (not saying he should) but thats what really annoys me how all these teens are cutting themselves like its a game and like its fun and its a hobby. real cutters who have a real problem will dig so deep into their skin. i've seen people with 4 in. scars and who really don't want to but they can't help it. The intro is not meant to be like "its cool to cut yourself" or "use this song all u want. slice that skin honey!!" its basically mocking the posers who whine about how their boyfriends cheated on them so now they have to cut themselves. i also think it could be him adressing someone he knows or a girl that he loves that cutting is not the medicine for heartache. also "im cutting trying to picture your black broken heart." alot of people have interpreted this as him cuttting himself..... this could be somehthing the preson he's trying to get thorugh to is saying. but again the song has nothing to do with cutting. (not to bash anyone else's opinions....) its about him trying to potray this image of himself for people so that they will think he's something that he's not. (possibly a stab at the whole "emo" thing which disgusts me.) he's seems happy but deep something is bothering him. And im going to refer to "my stomach hurts now all tied off in lace......etc." as in he's saying thats he's tired of having to pretend and that the "sickness" as in the image is not who he is or wants to be. And he's "praying" for someone to just notice that something is wrong and figure it out so that he can stop hiding. i know you can't base a whole song meaning on one part but that was just an example. ne wayz im just soooo sick of the word "emo" and the "emo scenesters" and how its become some fad... the whole thing just annoys me. "oh boo hoo my life sucks...i got a hangnail so im gonna go slit my wrists." no offense to cutters but gosh i'll be glad when the whole "emo" thing disappears (and yes it will go "out of style") and one more thing "emo" is not a music style. "screamo" is an extensioin of emo and it is not a music style either. Now ROCK is a musci style. I seem like the ultimate emo anti-christ but its just annoying as hell. okay well i've ranted enough (some of you may hate me now) well...my fingers hurt so...adios people. |

| i definetly agree with butterflies, alot of people are like "hoe!... you should leave her ass...etc." but when a guy tells his friends " i had a threesome" or "i slept with three girls" its condoned. i think it shouldn't be condoned either way. But back to the point this song has become so annoying to me. For some strange reason i loved it and then guess who got their hands on it? MTV. That's what gets me everytime. Once Mtv gets a hold of it its over. Because they play about every 20 seconds. And the lyrics......worst lyrics i've heard in the longest time. okay i definitely can see the abortion theory on this song. so i decided to go in depth and support this theory. Then Again the song is titled Give em' hell KID. "oh baby here comes the sound, i tok a train outta new orleans and they shot me full of ephedrine.....etc." -this is basically the prelogue for the story. the girl goes to a clinic and has an abortion. "this is how we like to do it on the murder scene" is very relevant because alot people are against abortion becuse it is seen as murder. -if you were here i'd never have a fear, so go on live your life.....etc." okay then the story prevails. i think this chorus is very relevant to the title because i think that the unborn baby's spirit is torturing the mother (and possibly both parents) therefore "givin' them hell." okay to make this very simple the baby's spirit is telling the mother that its misses her and that she doesn't have to worry about anything anymore ("go on live your life") because she got rid of her "burden" "well im a total wreck and almost everyday like the firing squad or the mess you made......etc." -okay the first line is telling the mother that because of the abortion she not only has wrecked the baby's future but has strung people involved on this messy ride. the second line is the spirit mocking her. "well don't i look pretty walking down the street in the best damn dress i own." "we are made from the sharpest things, we are young and we don't care...etc." -this is the part that makes me think the baby's spirit is talking to both the parents. "we are made from the sharpest things" could translate to people think the parents are terrible because of what they did. "we are young and we don't care." this is also a refrence to what people (possibly family members and friends,) think of them. "your dreams and your hopeless hair." this is all the things the mom would've had to sacrafice if she would've kept the baby. "we never wanted it to be this way." this is either the mom or both of the parents saying that they never meant to hurt anyone or cause a stir or a scene. "For all our lives." is saying that they will have to deal with the guilt and the speculation from people for the rest of their lives. "do you care at all." this line could have one of two meanings A. The mother is asking the baby's spirit if it cares about her remorse or the pain she's had to deal with. or B. this is the baby's spirit saying to the parents do you care about everything that they put it through and everything it won't ever get to experience and see. thats my take on it. it makes sense to me.. |

| i know alot of the comments im adressing are pretty old but in all honesty they've said it a bunch of times that this song is about Sonny's previous struggle with bullimia. He's not bullimic anymore(at least i hope not.) and another reason that the tone of the album is diffrent because this is around the time that Sonny found out he was adopted so he was probably going through some things. And this song is really sad cause they're such nice guys and all they want to do is make good music and i think if people want to find small descrepencies in other people then they obviously have insecurities they haven't dealt with in themselves. Sonny is definetly not ugly in any way or sort, i think he's beautiful and he's such a sweetheart plus NOBODY is perfect no matter how much plastic surgery, how much make-up, how much money they have, or how many times they tell themselves, nobody is perfect and i think too many people these days expect celebrities to be 100% perfection all the time. Not only that but they obsess over celebrities like they are their children or something. I mean they have to know every detail and every story and believe every rumor and wants to be the first to hear their song or the first to buy the magazine or the cd. Its ridiculous. Again, in all honesty i haven't been a fan as long as some other people but i do think they deserve loyal fans and not prep bitches who are going to turn on them cause they change their hair color. It sucks that they have to deal with so much shit but i think as long as they stay true to what they want for the band and to their music then they'll shatter people's low expectations of them. | |

the video is suposed to be a montage to a japanese horror movie called "The Audition." (hence the japanese girls.) Well i think the song is about the main character having to choose between his life of drugs and alcohol or his girlfriend. And i also think that he acts like two diffrent people when he's around his girlfriend and when he's "partying". it explains it all in the title of the song: "Honey This mirror isn't big enough for the two of us." -basically he's saying that he's not going to change his ways of doing drugs and drinking and he's not going to try and be two people at the same time. so either the girl gets used to it their relationship is over. its kinda like a huge middle finger to the girl. |

i think this could possibly be about him being shocked about his girl getting pregnant and going to take drugs to try and clear his head but it ends up making him go even crazier. okay 4 example; "REALLY quick switch sides, spill the filled up canister, the room is shaking, now your changing places, and i switched my pace, and my breathing races, when you mention blue." -okay the first two lines are refrencing the sex they had that impregnanted her. and he's kinda going nuts at the thought of her being pregnant ("when you mention BLUE" ,you know, blue on a pregnancy test?!) okay another example. "when you mention blue all i thought was color, when i mention drugs all you thought was sober. when your pants came off and i turned you over...." --okay the first line is basically him being oblivious to the fact that she was pregnant. meaning that he didn't think about blue as in pregnancy test. the second line is her being oblivious to the fact that he's still taking drugs. so when he talks about drugs she automatically thinks he's sober but thats not completely true. |

oh i totally forgot about the second verse. well here's my interpretation: "this is quick but not quiet painless.....etc." --i definitely agree with the tatto theory on this one. like he got a tatoo of her name or somehting that was supposed to be a reminder of a girl and then it seems like the two sides of his conscience are arguing with each other like the rational side thats telling him that the tatoo(and possibly the relationship with the girl) is stupid (hence the line "tacky and irrelevant.")and the loose side is saying who cares.("So what?") but then the line "Oh christ." makes me think that the loose side of conscience has realized that the rational side is right but its too late. okay in case this is confusing, i'll put it in the form of dialogue. the rational side is R and the loose side is L L:This is quick but not quite painless R: it sits perched on your arm. Tacky and irrelevant. L:So what? R:a permanent reminder that... L: OH CHRIST! yeah thats what i got out of the second verse. |

well its completely obvious what this song is about. "what they ask of you will make you want to say..so long." and "we're just two men as god had made us." okay for the idiots who still don't get it.(im truly not calling anybody an idiot just being sarcastic.) here's the synopsis: "in the middle of a gunfight.....etc." --well there's some sort of shooting in the middle of a restaraunt(maybe im taking this too literal but)and the guy gets arrested possibly in the presence of his girlfriend(hence"come with your arms raised high) and basically he knows what they "do" in prison so he's convincing himself that it won't happen to him.("well they're never gonna get me..") and is hoping that nothing bad will happen("say a prayer, say a prayer.) "now but i can't and i don't know...etc." -now that he's in jail and he's "experienced" what he didn't want to happen(you should've figured it out by now) and he doesn't know how to explain why he went along with it and why they did it to him. it almost seems like a letter to his girlfriend telling her that he can't explain what he's done and that he'll see her and "kiss her lips again" "they all cheat at cards and the checkers are lost......etc." -okay now he's describing the people around him and the things they do and make him do. ("they all cheat at cards.") and then he's questioning if he's gonna make it out of jail("will they give me the chair...") and sorta going into insanity "to your room....etc." -okay to me this seems like he's out of jail and he's trying to forget everything but he keeps being haunted by what he's seen. Kinda like the way guys talk to each other , "man you have no idea." and finally "life is but a dream for the dead.....etc." -this one was a little tough but it sounds like he saying that life is not all peachy and perfect. and if you think that it is then you must be "dead." "i wont go down by myself, i'll go down with my friends."-this means that he won't be the only one to see the dark things that happen in not only prison but life in general. if you STILL haven't got it well then, yes this song is about "getting it from the back" but there's also a deeper message about the darkness of life. at least thats what i think. |

there's a part in it too before the guitar solo where adam screams "i'll choose your fate, you sicken me." something like that. i've been trying to figure all the stuttered and blury parts of that song. mostly its adam screaming but i figured that one out. and at the last 30 seconds its a combo of adam's screams and lines from the song being fast forwarded. umm i think the song is about him trying to quit a girl but he can't (hence "i'll let you live") "you represent and actively encourage all my worst habits." -this saying that the girl represents everything that he doesn't want in someone but yet he keeps going back to her. "there's no stopping me , Im gutting you out" --this could mean that during the choruses he's telling her that he wants to get rid of her and get her out of his head but then during the verses he tells her that although he's tried but he can't "kill her off" (again hence the name "i'll let you live.") "tell me just how dangerous is second best. you've settled for less and i'm sure you'll settle again." -this one seems like she's with another person who he feels doesn't treat her the way he treated her. at the beginning its kind of a warning, like he's saying "do you know how dangerous i am and how dangerous it is that your with him." and then it moves on to "you've settled for less.....etc." which means "you've hurt me before and i'm sure you'll hurt him too." "you got tired........i know its not what you deserve." --well this means that she got tired of waiting around for something that he didn't have. " when the guilt subsides well the night begins" could translate to when i stop feeling guilty is when i'll have the chance to get my revenge. and "i know its not what you deserve." means that he knows that she doesn't deserve him and doesn't deserve to be happy and in love for what she did to him but he still wants her. my other theory is that its about him struggling with his mind whether he wants to kill this girl (literally) or "let her live" i support this theory with "the first degree was a riot/ we're ,making sure our lessons learned" --i think he's talking to the girl saying how fun it is going to be to kill her,. you know , first degree murder. get it? and then "we're making sure our lessons learned" -you know how adults talk to preschoolers and little kids. yeah like he's talking to her that way sarcastically saying "i'm going to teach you your lesson." and my other support for this theory is. "came as a gift from a good friend..........etc." basically the entire third verse -- this one means that he got his weapon from a friend who doesn't like what he's about to do but he understands that the girl hurt him. "you represent and actively encourage all of my worst habits." that means that he's basically telling her that she brought her death upon herself because she did him wrong.(in what way i don't know.) "proof that were both capable of the most terrible things, dont test me." -in this one he's saying that they're both capable and guilty for hurting each other and warning her to not think that he won't do "it". also: "the closer i look is the further you get. stubborn skin thickens an attempt to understand.." -this means that the more he thinks about the more he struggles with wanting to kill her. and that he's trying to toughen up ( hence "skin thickens") and he's trying to get her to understand why he's going to kill her. and then he gets angry and yells "understand!" which could mean that he's getting angry at himself and at her so at first he's asking her to understand and now he's commanding her to understand. i don't know which theory sounds better but the murder theory is much more intense and exciting.because the "can't let her go" theory is so sterotypical. i personally like the murder thoery better. Is that wrong?! Lol |

when he's screaming he's saying "things appear...gone!" and then on the whisper part he's saying "you jump back uuuu..up. motivation. motivation." i think its about not seeing someone or a situtaion for what it is and kinda fooling yourself into thinking its something that its not. "surprise me i'm looking out"-that could mean "make me see, im trying to see that truth. hit me sonething real" "you jump back up, onto your feet somehow." that could mean that the other person can clearly understand whats happening and has recovered but kinda left him in the dark. and "things appear...gone!" could translate to the relationship or the situtaion appears to be solved and over with but he doesn't know what to make of it. |

okay here's my take, think of it what you will: "then you said a little more about your dream like that was my call" -basically he's telling her that she expected him to take care of their realtionship and their hopes for the future of it all by himself. "if you would only listen. Bypass everything and went straight for the neck." -well in this one the narrator is saying that when he tried to tell her and show her and try to work things out she wouldn't listen, therefore she killed the relationship(hence the line "went straight for the neck") "i studied. We're studied. Dragged you out into the streets before you buckle at your knees." _im gonna have to think about this one. you know, read between the lines. this line repeats again so maybe i can come up with something later... "What's it feel like to be a ghost. Louder Now....." -the narrator is sarcastcally telling the girl that he's over her and that she's dead in his eyes. (hence the refrence to a "ghost") But he makes the sting worse by putting in a question. and then "louder now" would translate to ANSWER ME.or Speak Up!!! or SAY SOMETHING!! "I said so look closely there might be something you'd like .What was it like ?Oh and I... Look so close its been months who knows if I will get this right. Oh and I..look so closely there might be something you'd like.What was it like? Oh and I... -this one's also kinda complicated but this is what i could make of it.umm he's basically tenderly telling her that now that he looks at it there were good times in their relationship and that he did love her. and "its been months who knows if i can get this right." could translate to that its been awhile since they've been together so he doesn't know what to say to her or how to talk to her. okay back to "i studied. We're studied. Dragged you out, into the streets. Before you buckled at your knees." -umm im still having a hard time with this part but this is what i got: that he's been trying to come up with ways to make excuses for her but he can't(hence "i studied.) and that the relationship is pretty much over(hence "we're studied) and "dragged you out..........." basically he's put her behind him and she's nervous at the thought? im not sure about this one but that's the best i could do. |
