I think the green gloves are a symbol of jealousy and envy. I think he has been out of contact with his good friends and has grown jealous of them because he is not included. The drinking theme could be a way of getting closer to them. I think the jealousy in the last few lines is pretty obvious as he says he wants to win them over so they'll be his. I also think of gloves as a way of fighting to get back in, just like boxing gloves. he is fighting to win them over through jealousy and alcohol. |

i think the "you could drive a car through my head in five minutes" is him commenting on the way people just have small talk conversations and do not really communicate with eachother that benefits those who come off as different/nervous/frightened. i think he's trying to say that nobody stops to think and look beyond the point blank impression we get of people.
what i really cant grab is the "everything i love gets lost in drawers" lyrics. i think it has something to do with being nervous and feeling like the person you want to come off as is somewhere lost inside of you. being nervous can ruin some people and i think he's using a metaphor to decribe how he feels scared and unprepared to socialize. |

I think this song is about leaving someone, even if its only for a little while, and really missing that person. the seeds that cross the seven seas is a metaphor for parting ways with someone, and taking root is a way of saying that you've been gone long enough to say your starting to feel at home, when really your far away from the person you love. and you keep wondering if your still in love with that person. when they send mail to eachother through the paper she wonders why he hasn't told her to come back, or why he didnt tell her to stay in the first place. and after a while she gets the impression that he's not missing her anymore and that he may have found someone else. when he tells her of this or when she figures it out, she decides to stay where she is and not go back to him. in the last few lines, i think shes saying that she thought he was lonely just as she was when she first left, but she realizes she was wrong and hes not as lonely as she thought but she still is. Fantastic lyrics :) |
