This song is about God and how the human race thinks he abandonded us because we pray and they go unanswered. God promised the human race that when we die will go to heaven and our sins will be forgivin and blah blah blah. What's the hook, the twist within this verbose mystery? I would gladly bet my life upon it. That the ghost you love, your ray of light Will fizzle out without hope. (hope) We're the empty set just floating through, wrapped in skin, Ever searching for what we were promised. Reaching for that golden ring we'd never let go, Who would ever let us put their filthy hands upon it? This part of the song was the dead give away for me. Basically saying whats the catch to get into heaven the golden ring being the halos. |

Hence "I Write Sins not Tragedies" They go on and get married only it's a different person used to represent the groom but it is the same girl "The poor groom's bride is a whore" |

Okay instead of fucking arguing about what everybody thinks of the band why not just say what the fuck you mean if you don't like them than why the fuck are you looking at the lyrics? But anyways I've been racking my head over what this means and I think I have somewhat of an idea so here it is. It is about a girl who was abandoned ( An orphaned gypsy nymph) found in on Brocken's Peak a Mountain in Europe I believe around Germany. The girl was found Walpurgis Night the eve of MayDay a Germanic Pagan Holiday. The Circus I think is figurative meaning it's not really refering the circus but a band of witches that were in delight to find the girl. (She watches from a maypole, on the rip of Her tongue) A Maypole is pole decorates in wreathes and is danced around on MayDay (A Gretel sick of merely sucking Her thumb) Saying that she was corrupted when was a baby sucking her thumb. Spawned scorned, abhorred by the aerial She was the light of the world going down War-torn, forlorn and malarial She was found Born in a burial gown As the girl grew up she was raised as a witch and scorned by it (abhorred by the aerial) abhorred means hate basicaly and aerial meaning like sky so she was hated god up in heaven for participating in witchcraft which is a sin against god. As for her being light going down she was probably the start of the world converting to pagan and abandoning christanity. The girl being born in a burial gown I believe is figurative as well not that she was actually born in a burial gown but her desitney was to die for her sins later in life.
