| Shakira – Hips Don't Lie Lyrics

I've loved Shakira even before she came to America, but I have a lot of issues with this song.
PARTICULARLY when Wyclef says "Nobody cannot ignore" ... I'm not the grammar police, but that says in that statement "No one can pay attention to her" .. it's a double negative and it's little, but it's really annoying because it's a lame display of America's horrid language and grammar.
It's a good song to dance to, I guess .. and it's super catchy .. but I think Wyclef ruins it, because Shakira has such a powerful voice for a little woman .. I dunno, I don't think that she's as good as she was before she came to America. But I still like her. |

Ahhh ... sorry:
"There [in Tucson] Scarlet picks up the voice of the Native American ancestors on WAMPUM PRAYER after visiting the site of a massacre of the Apache people. "She has a dream and follows the voice and prayer of an old woman who survived and whose song is woven into the land." There's an obvious parallel with the songlines of Aboriginal folklore in Australia as Scarlet is propelled by the dream until she reaches Cherokee country and the ancestry of her own people." |

"The Southwest has this effect on her [Scarlet] where she looks deeper into things. And she's able to hear the ancestors more clearly. And she's been to a place where a long time ago there was a massacre that happened to the Apache, to most of the women and children. And there's a voice that she begins to hear of an old woman that's sitting by a fire. She's hearing in her dream time, and she's hearing it more and more with every day. And she starts to follow this trail, this voice, this story that she's picking up historically. So on some level, I guess, the aboriginal idea of song-lines has begun to sort of, mm, wrap itself around. That another culture is sort of supporting this concept that a song is, mmm, is determining where she goes. But if you don't know the song, you can't get into the next landspace. That's how song-lines work." |

Certainly far from my favorite Tori song ... this is a track skipper (it just gets too annoying).
But this is a pretty angry song ... Tori's furious with her record label trying to bury her (her "temple of gold"). |

"There are card games, alarms interrupting afternoon naps, approaching armies, races to the border, desperation, fate and fortune. And that's really as much about Texas as you probably need to know." |

Originally by The Rolling Stones.
Not a Stones fan myself, so I prefer Tori Amos' version for biased reasons. |

Well, Lisa ... you're partially right ...
Tori wrote this song about George H. W. Bush ... take a closer look at the lyrics and think republican, and it should come to you (especially at "Elephant mind, missy you don't have you forgettin' to fly, darlin', when you sleep").
Fits nicely with our current president.. |
