The past is only the future with the lights on. I think that means that whatever happened in the past will happen again; when it happens in the future, you'll be aware of it happening because it had already happened. In the past you were in the dark because you had no idea what was going to go down cause this had never happened to you before. But in the future, it's like the lights are turned on and you can see how everything is going to play out... because it already happened. I have no idea if anyone will understand this haha, but that's my take! great song by the way, and i'm super stoked blink 182 are back. |

I defintely agree with what everyone is saying about this song; how it's about a relationship (ie ex girlfriend). However, I kind of had my own personal interpretation about it. I think it's not about a relationship ending, but it could be about a relationship that never actually happened. This guy and girl both had feelings for each other, but just couldn't get the timing right... either the girl was ready but the guy wasn't, and then vice-versa. You know? I don't know, that's my one theory just because that sorta thing happened to me recently and this song made me think haha. Oh, and side-note, did you ever notice that the chorus actually sounds like you're falling? The way the guitar riff sounds with the bass, man, it's nuts; I feel like I'm falling through space or something! Every instrument in this song is just astonishing and perfectly placed. |

yup, it's definitely" We will always be a light You can see it from the surface, see it. Such a beautiful song. It seems as if every lyric, instrument and voice serves it's purpose. When I hear this song it makes me feel good, and gives me a positive outlook on life. haha, I'm a nerd, but it's just so beautiful. |

From the first time I heard this song I knew it was about the Blink break-up. "So long forgotten friends, no, you don't know the difference Between love and submission, and I'm not that obedient" Those are my favourite lyrics from this song... it's like Mark's saying good-bye to his friends [Tom] and explaining he [Tom} doesn't know the difference between genuine love and forced love... and then the 'not that obedient' part is the justification in the break-up. Gosh, Mark is so wonderfully deep. |

| Taking Back Sunday – What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I have a little story that happened to me yesterday morning concerning this song. It's actually a little creepy. It was about 10ish and I had just woken up; I put my Louder Now cd in, and put my stereo volume to 30 which is not too loud/not too low. I was also by myself. So I walked into my bathroom and started to brush my teeth. In the middle of the chorus though ["What's it feel like to be a ghost? Louder now, louder now"] my stereo (on it's own!) became louder and louder and louder, till I was certain, SOMETHING must've been turning up my stereo. I walked into my room, and nobody was there; I looked at my stereo screen and all it said was "Volume 50 MAXIMUM". In order to turn my stereo up, you have to turn the knob. I immediately assumed it was a robber or something, but I walked through my whole house with my mom on the phone from work, and nobody was in my house. What really creeps me out is the fact that the music became louder during the "louder now louder now" part. So there you have it... Taking Back Sunday have evoked the ghosts in my bedroom. Creepy stuff... good song though. (I personally won't be listening to this cd by myself for a while though!) |
