i think its talking about all of these different groups/people that think theyre making the world a better place but its not working. you're stupid to think you can change the world in the blink of an eye. "Hey Brother Christian with your high and might errand, Your actions speak so loud, I can't hear a word you're saying. Hey Sister Bleeding Heart with all of your compassion, Your labors soothe the hurt but can't assuage temptation. Hey man of science with your perfect rules of measure, Can you improve this place with the data that you gather?" religious groups-they try so relentlessly to convert people that people ignore them. although they go out and do all of these good deeds, its not gonna stop people from "sinning." "Hey Mother Mercy can your loins bear fruit forever? Is your fecundity a trammel or a treasure?" -is having mercy on these ignorant people a good thing or a bad thing? "And I want to conquer the world, Give all the idiots a brand new religion, Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil, Promote equality in all my decisions With a quick wink of the eye And a "God you must be joking!" -the chorus is sarcastic. this person thinks that with his/her religion, he/she can change the world in the blink of an eye, only to find out they were wrong "Hey Mr. Diplomat with your worldly aspirations, Did you see the children cry when you left them at the station? Hey moral soldier you've got righteous proclamation, And precious tomes to fuel your pulpy conflagrations." -the diplomats try to aid foreign countries, but theres still poverty there. soldiers can say they have the honor of dying for their country, but the war is because of religion (precious tomes, referring to the bible and such) "And I want to conquer the world, Give all the idiots a brand new religion, Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil, Promote equality in all of my decisions I want to conquer the world, Expose the culprits and feed them to the children, I'll do away with air pollution and then all save the whales, We'll have peace on earth and global communion. I want to conquer the world! " -the ending is totally sarcastic. no more air pollution, save the whales(sortuve ridiculous), and theres no chance in hell everyone will have a global communion in peace. i think the message is pretty obvious, but hey, i could be wrong. |

wow, now i really wanna read the catcher in the rye but yeah, i agree w/ jedibummaster. when i first heard this song i immediately related to it by telling myself i would change but never did, and it kept hurting me. |

thats how i relate to the song, if im pissed off at somebody and disagree with them but i think this song has a deeper meaning. i was too young to understand what was going on in the world at the time they wrote this but i think there was a war going on somewhere in the early 1990's and the song is about 2 political figures that disagree and continue killing innocent people in their war. "if we destroy eachother we might save a life or two" this line is what really got me thinking this. if they both die theyll end up saving many peoples lives because they wont be around to kill everyone. i could be totally wrong but i think this might be what its about. |

yeah, i agree w/ pinkfloydrulez. it sounds like its about someone he knew that was close to him that commited suicide. possibly his wife that died. the lines that make me think its about suicide are: "I could live again if you could Just stay alive for me" "I could never smile cause you Won't stay alive for me" these lines both say that the person can never be happy again because that person decided to go on without them. "You can't take back, the one mistake That still lives on after life it takes" after you kill yourself, you cant take it back and everyone is left to live w/ the tragedy of your death. good song. |
