i think its symbolic of change. the old man on the cracked land is old, paranoid of the past (fire) and future (photograph). the old man sighs at everything, as the babies cry. they are both indifferent. but, the children scream when Chad (the guy who sings that part) begins to dream, or waste time, like the old man. The children laugh, however, when Chad chooses a path and moves on. Therefore, i think this song is about change, and movement through life. |
