The Libertines – The Boy Looked At Johnny Lyrics 16 years ago
That's probably right then. Still, I'm pretty sure they got the title from the Patti Smith song. Smith is like curriculum for independent rockers, like her or not.

of Montreal – And I've Seen a Bloody Shadow Lyrics 17 years ago
The Queenest part of this song is "And they really poison my sexuality"

My lyric understandability really sucks! Even though I'm Norwegian, I didn't understand that he said "lille venn" in this song, I just read it on the board for Death is not a parallell move. I thought he said "Linda Vanderheart is not dead", and figured that was a real or fictional 50's pin-up girl or something :P

Interpol – Pioneer to the Falls Lyrics 18 years ago
I think he's saying "if it's still pretty, what with all these leads we'll be fine"

This is the Interpol lyric that is most clear to me. I always interpreted the song like this:

A girl and a guy is in a relationship, but the girl has some kind of dark past. He wants to know exactly what it is ("show me the dirt pile") and hopes he can handle it.

"If it's still pretty what with all these leads, we'll be fine", means that if he still loves her even though he knows she's done something really wrong, it's gonna be OK if she tells her what it is.

the "I know you try.." part is him saying that he knows she's a better person now.

I think what's really killing him is not knowing. He really doesn't know if he wants to know, because it might destroy his image of her, but in the end he can't let it go without knowing.

The Dresden Dolls – Half Jack Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah, I never even thought of hermaphrodites until I read it here. But then again, I thought she was singing "Half JEW, half jack", so it made more sense if it was about her parents. The only thing I found confusing was what 'jack', was a metaphor for. I thought maybe someone who was dead, like drowned as in the "half underwater". Then I checked out the different meanings of 'jack', and it seems like a pretty sneaky name.

My theory that Amanda was a little jewish-ish was supported by her guest-appearance on the golem! record.

Kaiser Chiefs – Everyday I Love You Less And Less Lyrics 18 years ago
I always figured this song was about some crazed fan. Maybe he thought it was cool in the start, and that led to the sex-part, but then the fan turned out to be some obsessed nutter, and now he's trying to get rid of her (him?).

Interpol – Leif Erikson Lyrics 18 years ago
What if "her love's a pony" is really referring to a child that really wants a pony? The pony-wanting child is already a well-known cliché, and I think that might be it. I mean, I think that he loves her, and wants to take their relationship further whilst she is hesitating because she's scared to love, really.
"Well then hook me up and throw me baby cakes, cuz I like to get hooked."
What if "baby cakes" is her placenta? I know that's kinda gross, but placenta is really latin for "flatcake" and I thought that maybe he was ready for babies? She doesn't really believe in his love and says that he's "just prey to the female". He responds with a "Oh yeah? Then let's have a baby, try telling me I don't love you after that, we'll be ok no matter what, sweetie"

Malajube – Pâte Filo Lyrics 18 years ago
I actually think he's afraid of getting hurt himself. It's "Qui *me* protège", isn't it. If he was trying to protect the one with the libido he would have said it differently. But what does nitro mean?

"Can't take the kid from the fight
take the fight from the kid"

This song makes me think of drugging and lobothomy. I think it's about putting troublesome kids in institutions.

The Killers – My List Lyrics 18 years ago
To me, "don't give the ghost up, just clench your fist, you should have known by now you were on my list", means that the singer is dead, but tells his wife not to worry, because she is on the list of people he will visit and care for in his afterlife.

I don't mean that he's actually made a list, but you know. I'm pretty sure this is not what Brandon meant, though.

Tokyo Police Club – Nature of the Experiment Lyrics 18 years ago
It's always interesting to check out the lyrics. I was certain he was singing: 'it's not the *storms* inside my shoes'
I thought it sounded wonderfully absurd, but I guess stones are more common to be inside of shoes.

I don't really get the meaning of this lyric. I think he's really referring to a rare russian proverb. I want to look it up:)

Pulp – Duck Diving Lyrics 18 years ago
I really like this song, because it shows Jarvis' writing talent in a slightly different way. It's not all about girls.

This song is quite easy to understand the meaning of. I think it's just a short story about a boy who is afraid of diving.
(I doubt that anyone has ever told Jarvis he can swim because 'fat floates')

Ben Folds – Landed Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm just posting my own thoughts as Ben Folds' explanation has already been posted.

When I first heard this song I thought it was about someone who had had an affair with another woman. His wife/girlfriend said she could forgive him but that they had to move away and start a-new. However, he realises that the woman he really loves is the one he had the affair with and flies back to the east coast to live with her for the rest of his life. Or something. Just an interpretation.

The Strokes – Barely Legal Lyrics 19 years ago
"I wanna steal your innocence" could also mean that he i sort of a punk and she's not. He wants her to freak out a little, with him.

"why won't you wear your new trenchcoat" Simply refers to a trenchcoat he gave her that she doesn't like. Let's face it. I've hardly ever received a piece of clothing that I liked that I didn't choose beforehand.

The way he sings totally makes me want to be his girlfriend. "I just want to misbehave" sound a bit like "I just want to mess up your head" though. I think he is crazy about her though. With the "i just want to be your slave" and "You ain't never had nothing I wanted
But I want it all I just can't figure out
" The last one is like "I don't know why I love you, but I sure do!"

The Shins – Kissing the Lipless Lyrics 19 years ago
I want to add some lines from the song to argue my meanings.

I believe he has a new girlfriend and really just wants to be left in peace with her because he says "you told *us* of your new life there" instead of "you told *me*"

The Criminal eyes thing might be her wanting him but not being able to have him. Like she looks at him as if she wants to steal him?

the "you tested the metal of doe's skin and petals" part I always imagined meant something like: "you tried to be romantic", and I pictured some sort of cosy place with actual doe's skin and rose petals.

The Shins – Kissing the Lipless Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm not sure what this song is *supposed* to mean, but to me, it reminds me of my own personal experiences.

It's about a girl who has been his girlfriend or openly in love with him, and the guy, who obviously don't have any feelings for her except for maybe pity and a bit of friendly love.

He has moved on with a new girlfriend, but she obviously hasn't. She has started dating, but feels the need to boast to him about it in case he thinks she's pathetic. He understands how she feels, and kind of wants to end their friendship, which had been pretty close, but was ruined when she fell so deeply in love with him.

His checking up on her is merely politeness, maybe even suggested by his new girlfriend.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 19 years ago
I too have always thought of this song as just a trial.
I think that in the beginning he comes to his mother to tell her that he's killed a man and is devastated by his own actions. He then goes to the police to tell them what he's done and ask if he can go (it is a dreamlike world)

"if I'm not back again this time tomorrow...etc" if he goes to jail, she should carry on.

Then He is taken away to be trialed (the "too late, my time has come" part) where he's going to face the truth (of his murder)

The "I see a little silhouette-o of a man..." part is taking place in a very Alice in wonderland-ish court. Where his solo parts are him pleading to be set free and the choir is the people (the "Bismillah" voices are obviously the prosecutor and the judge)
He is condemned to death.

But then, he stands up, and suddenly he's strong and doesn't care about the trial anymore, he just leaves. The end of the song is just some sort of an epilogue or something.

OK, I know this interpretation is kinda far-fetched, but it's always been the way I've seen this song.

Kate Bush – The Kick Inside Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't think "the kick inside" means that there's actually a baby kicking inside her. And I don't think that the song is about her having sexual relations with her brother.
I think trhe kicking inside symbolises an urge to go out and explore the world, and that's why she has to leave him behind. When she says "your sister I was born" she doesn't mean they're blood relatives, but brother and sister in other ways.
