i feel like this song is about two people that are both damaged from past relationships. like in the beginning it says "Cradle me, I'll cradle you" like two people trying to console one another. then it says later on "we'll do the things that lovers do" as if they know they're acting. they're doing the things that lovers do, but not really acting out of true passion. and finally, the line that made me realize that this is what the song's about, is when he says: "and with heart-shaped bruises," which to me is saying that both their hearts are now bruises, because they're both damaged by their pasts. yes? no? |

perhaps this song is about someone that is forced to end the relationship, for one reason or another, although he knows that it's the last thing he wants to do, because she is his best friend; his girlfriend; his everything. he's catching a train home and "washing his hands of attachments," so perhaps he is leaving for somewhere far away and knows that the distance is impassable; therefore forcing him to leave the one he loves... |
