Pretty positive it's "what if I gave a tenth to my church, and didn't drink it off in VIP" as in 1/10 of my pay could've better served the church than me balling out in VIP.

Halifax – Scarlet Letter Part 2 Lyrics 7 years ago
Wow, I had the lyrics and meaning very wrong in my head. For years I though the song was about two brothers or friends and one was getting molested / raped by his father. I always thought the friend was trying to get his friend to tell him what was going on as he can see symptoms in his friends behavior. I was sure it was an helpless, outside-looking-in perspective of a child being abused. So many lines made that idea make sense until I saw the posted lyrics. I know these are wrong now but at least read what I heard in my shoddy headphones so you don't think I'm too crazy:

Crush my bones tonight
So thin that they might slide under his door
Leave my heart for the world to see (he did this to me)
He thinks his friends are clueless as to the situation
He's found himself in
Buried beneath assaulted memories

So cough cough cough it up
Have you lost your breath
Or maybe that's me tearing out your lungs
Tell me how it feels
To know that this is just my dream
And it's your reality

(This verse is the friend begging him to tell him what's going on at home. He suspects that what might be happening [his dreams] but needs confirmation as it's a huge accusation.)

A scream pulls me
In the direction of my livingroom
A body laying on the floor
Looking at me with a blank, blank stare on his face
Does this seem familiar?
Does this seem familiar?

(The friend/ brother spending the night has heard the screams and comes out to find his friend on the floor just after another assault. The friend can no longer hide it.)

Jimmy Eat World – 23 Lyrics 7 years ago
I've always felt this track was reflective and looking back. It has always (to me) felt like it's from a perspective of a person much older who has never really moved passed this pivotal moment in their life. Parting with someone who means everything to them.

Amazing that after all this times, it still seams I'm 23. I'm still stuck in this point in my life. I'll be 23 indefinitely until I move past this moment. I'm still driving (running) away from this and I'm sorry every day.

Even though it's earlier in the song, the "No one else will have me like you do, no one else will have me, only you" seems like an acceptance; an understanding of self. A very profound song, easily relatable and one of my favorite tracks all time.

Kanye West – Blood on the Leaves Lyrics 10 years ago
Maybe I'm looking to deeply into this out maybe you guys are but this is what I'm hearing:

Sounds like the song is written from the perspective of Hip-Hop music and it's reflecting on an artist who was supposed to represent our correctly and got lost along the way. Hip-Hop is wondering what went wrong as the artist and it knew each other well and we're try to each and somehow the fame has corrupted the artist. By the end it's chastising the artist and saying look at all you lost for wildin' out.

I love when it feels like Hip-Hop is like other artists will treat it right and it's down with them. The beat and tone feels harder there.

I could be way off but that's what I hear and picture when I hear this. The vibe feels right. Makes me think the bodies swinging in the summer breeze is just another artist getting some radio burn in the summer. Another unsuspecting victim of the game soon to be swallowed by the politics and voices of the music industry.

Benny Mardones – Into The Night Lyrics 10 years ago
I read that same story and it's clear he's never had kids. Parental love sounds nothing like this. If you believe the love he wants to show this girl is parental love, I'm sure you believe Michael Jackson just had magical sleepovers with children in his bed.

Queens of the Stone Age – ...Like Clockwork Lyrics 10 years ago
Definitely appears to be talking about time and it seems to be a recurring theme throughout the album (The Vampyre of time and memory is age). I think mbaliya hit it on the head. Time is slipping away with every day and Josh is feeling it. Not everything that goes around (like a clocks hand) come back around (you don't get the time back even though the clock is where it was before) and its a sad

Coheed and Cambria – No World for Tomorrow Lyrics 13 years ago
I never thought of the "deserving" part as just Claudio. I always felt that it was a confrontation between Claudio and The Writer at House Atlantic. I imagined that this song leads into the events of Willing Well II and fleshes out the events, plus lets us see the events unfold. Kinda like this:

Claudio Rallying IRO-Bots:
In the light we'll sing,
as all hurt must bring,
in the falling cusp
of all broken things.
In the coming dusk,
you will call on us,
and unite we must.
I'm the Crowing, Fucks!

The Writing Writer:
You all think you've figured me out. Do as I say!
Your words mean nothing at all, so now I lay.
I said, "Come, Momma! Come, Momma! As I need." (Taunting Ambellina while impaling her)
I said, "Come, Momma! Come, Momma! Watch it bleed." (As Ambellina dies)

Claudio to Writer:
What did I do to deserve all of this?

Writer to Claudio while looking at everything in disgust:
What did I do to deserve all of you?

ALSO!!! There are two other ideas that I think will flip everyone out! I think the entire song aside from the above lines is actually written from Jesse / Inferno's perspective. I think Jesse is the one rallying the troops and leading the charge, as well as trying to electrify Claudio. He also repeatedly calls Claudio boy, but not in a demeaning manner. Also, the last "Bye Bye World" Is Jesse actually dying as he was supposedly killed in Willing Well II, leading to Claudio and Sizer killing Mayo in The Hound (of Blood and Rank).

That's the same thing I thought. I figure this whole album is Claudio talking to Apollo and explaining to him the events that led to him deciding on burning star IV (The Home of the Prise).

For some reason I hear him saying "The army! The Army! They Hide! They Hide! Now We're coming Home!"

Always interpreted it as The Pioneers looking on as an Armada is approaching then as they get close enough the armada let's out a fleet of fighters. The Pioneers then realize "Holy crap, we're really gonna fight and die! The Red Army's coming!" With Jesse looking at his ship falling apart and crew running around and him kinda giving up knowing it's hopeless.

For all I know it's just sounds, gibberish, or likely just adlibing LOL.

Coheed and Cambria – The Light and the Glass Lyrics 13 years ago
I've read the Cobalt and Calcium version of what the lyrics mean but I can't say I agree. I know most of the stuff came directly from Claudio, but I don't think he clarified this one there.

I think this is what's really going on in the song:

I think Jesse is either standing in a doorway or laying in a cot, looking at Claudio sitting down chronicling in a journal and he's smiling. He knows things will get rough for him but he enjoys the glimpse of that innocent boy that his nephew once was. He thinks to himself "Slowly the pen touches paper in the guidance of words that you write. Memories roll in of the things you once did and who you shared them with. Is somebody thinking of HIM?"

He then explains everything and acknowledges how hard it is to explain "Words don't come with ease; they're forever my hurt" since he's the bearer of bad news. He continues to comfort Claudio and explain that his countdown to return to Newo is in vain and that his focus needs to be on the mission and what's at stake (Would it really matter if you were to count the days left with your hand? Your focus secure and the loves you left well [Newo is safe at home]. Smiles staged in photographs, here until (Those memories are forever])

Claudio then thinks of Newo as he gets close to breaking down.

Jesse then tries to reaffirm his and Claudio's resolve by mentioning Matthew and Cambria, "Ignoring the words of your obnoxious little brother, "Kill or be Killed" spilled the words from your mother. Jesse can't sleep at this point and justs lays back with the light on thinking in silence. Everything is sinking in with Claudio in the silence.

Jesse acknowledges "You couldn't last a lifetime" knowing his nephews life will never be the same and the kid he knew will be gone now that the situation is changing his role in everything. He know's how much Claudio has lost and given up in such a short time. He kind of taunts him as though Claudio won't accept his fate and says I know you have better things to do than avenge your family and save the world; go carve that girls name in your arm.

Claudio can't accept it and starts calling him a liar and isn't believing the story. Claudio tells his uncle, "Liar, lie away..." His uncle then get's angered by being called a liar and Claudio not heeding his words about his family and tells him "If you die in this, it'd be better than what you're about to go through" (If you get to put to sleep like an old dog, you're better off) Jesse then says, I've told you what you need to hear and what i needed to say, now take time to soak it in (I've been cautious with the words I extend. Allow this year before the world starts to end) as Ambellina looks on.

I think Claudio eventually drifts off to sleep but keeps replaying the scenario of what happened with his family according to his uncle and wakes up crying thinking of his mom crying for his dad. He begins accepting it throughout his sleep and begins to dream that he made it home that night (Which is where 21:13 begins)

I think Jesse is "The Light" as he held the truth about the events that transpired, and Claudio was "The Glass" who was about to break at the news of how everything changed for him in one fell swoop.

I don't know about that... I thought Jesse dies in Apollo II: The Telling Truth (Which in my opinion is happening and visualized in No World for Tomorrow).

I think it's just back and forth between Jesse and Claudio. I think he's explaining everything to him at this point, Jesse being "The Light" which is the truth and Claudio "The Glass" since he's in a fragile state (ready to break) after everything.

They Don't. Not in the song anyway. It is in the booklet if you ghave the CD. I always try to hear it and it's not in there, but the booklet has it there after "Pray for us all... Good Appollo, I'll be burning Star IV."

Actually spells Apollo with 2 Ps. I wonder if that's sifnificant.

Hey Angie, I said the same thing. It feels as though the entire album is a collection of memories that Claudio is telling Apollo, Newo's dog. The Album starts with who I believe is Claudio Kilgannon greeting Apollo "Hello Apollo. Where should I begin?" and ends with "Pray for us all... Good Apollo, I'll be burning Star IV." Although I never heard the last lyrics or Apollo mentioned in the song, the liner notes in the booklet end with this line before the credits. I do wonder about the chronology of a lot of the songs on all of the albums though.

I don't have the album yet, but are you guys sure the line isn't "Curse us, as God has failed!" as opposed to Sold us?

I swear he also says "I'm the Crowing Fuc#!" not B1tc#...

Also, I have SSTB, IKSSE3 and GAIBSIV and I swear some of the lyrics in the liner notes are wrong. Do we know if the lyrics in the booklet are from Claudio or did a third party do them? For example, in Willing Well IV, the last line clearly says "I am gone" as I've also heard at live shows as well, instead of the "I'm in Love" listed in the booklet.

I'm sure this was already mentioned and you know this by now, but the Jesse Bad Boy line refers to Coheed killing Josephine after she was raped by the Jersey City Devils, and after Coheed killed the twins.

My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics 14 years ago
Am I the only one that thinks that the Black Parade is clearly a funeral procession? It sounds to me like a dad having a heart to heart with his son and saying, "Son, one day, when I die, promise me you'll go on and be a great man; the man I'm trying to teach you to be."

I think it's incredibly obvious with lines like "One day I'll leave you, a phantom to lead you..." which is where the departed are in the procession, leading the "black parade" (or cars in the funeral procession).

Q. Amey – Get At You Lyrics 14 years ago
The lyrics corrected should read:

Hey shawty where ya goin?
My mistake for calling you shawty.
Your name's Tianna that's cool,
My name is Q And I would
Like to put a little somethin' on ya mind girl
And I can offer you a swell of a time girl.
My approach is a little different girl I admit it
But I aint trippin, cuz girl I really, really wanna

[Chorus]
Show you 'bout some thangs you aint never seen
Would you listen? I really, really wanna
take you from ya man, thats just how It be..
I aint kiddin And i really wouldnt talk it
If i couldnt walk it (Naw girl)
I wouldn't spend it to get it
In fact I really, really wanna
Get at you, Get at you.

[Bridge]
Ooh, how can I, hold me tongue?
When your beautiful, your a star (your a star)
If you gimme a little bit
I gon' let you come on in
Ohhh, lemme adore you

Baby I just really wanna
Show you bout some thangs you aint never seen
Would you listen? I really, really wanna
take you from ya man, thats just how It be..
I aint kiddin And i really wouldnt talk it
If i couldnt walk it (Naw girl)
I wouldn't spend it to get it
In fact I really, really wanna
Get at you, Get at you

[Verse 2]
Soon as i see that your receptive,
Baby check out my method
You a real fly chick, such a catch
Im a real live nigga, we make a match
Real talk, I know you understand it
And thats the only way that im gon' hand it..
To you baby, I aint trippin
Cuz girl I really, really wanna

[Chorus till end]
