The Early November – Hair Lyrics 19 years ago
thanks lion_crazz and xxMaterializerxx. And yes, xxMaterializerxx, I think you're very correct about the message in the song about lack of a "perfect life" also. You get the impression that something was once, arguably, perfect. And now it's not there anymore-- now NOTHING is there anymore.

And I LOVE the line "I'll be happy for your life, even if I hate it all." How bittersweet is that... and it's quite painful if you can relate.

The Early November – Long Talks Lyrics 19 years ago
Whoops sorry about above comment-- I think everyone will underrstand what I meant. But just to clarify:

"THAT'S WHY" instead of "So Now" and "Now I'm"

I hear instead of "THAT'S WHY I'm/We're falling apart" NOT-- "So now."

And, it makes more sense that way. :)

The Early November – Sunday Drive Lyrics 19 years ago
"I wonder if I'm alone in your head," is basically another way of asking "Do you no longer feel the same way about us?"

You see, he is speaking to a girl who no longer has the same views of the relationship as he does. He feels like their relationship has fallen apart because she has grown distant and is no longer honest [or completely open] with him. Phrasing it as "I wonder if I'm alone in your head," is a very brilliantly emo way to put it. It suggests that HE still loves her as much as he ever did. He still wants it to work, but he no longer thinks it can. If SHE thinks he is alone [in her head] then the relationship is already over. Her viewing him as "alone" is the same as viewing them both "apart." Being worded this way puts more emphasis on his thriving love despite the lack of mutual feelings. He still loves her. But if she thinks he is alone, then she thinks herself that way as well.

Aside from being an incredibly song, it is EXACTLY what happened between me and my girlfriend right before we broke up. SO accurate in fact, that even the "12 days gone by" is right on the money.
And no, I didn't even know the song when we broke up, so don't bother suggesting that I emulated the situation for huge emo-cred. :P
And no, I'm not Ace, either. :P

The Early November – Decoration Lyrics 19 years ago
I believe "Decoration" is simply saying that money IS a decoration. (essentially, that money--and the things it buys--is not truly what's important in life.) It may be necessary in some cases, but it causes more trouble than good, and it [and luxury goods purchased with money] shouldn't be seen as anymore than ornaments. This is made abundantly clear in the lyrics as well.

Note also how the song has the sounds of a cash register in the middle of the song. Not just a cool sound effect. It actually in there for a reason.

And no the last line is NOT about bad credit. Ace isn't talking about "betting." The word actually is "perks." ...The pointless PERKS-- the pointless DECORATIONS.

The vase on your mantle may look pretty-- but it will never be anything more than a decoration. Money will never buy anything more than decorations.

The Early November – The Mountain Range in Living Room Lyrics 19 years ago
I would expect the people talking is a way to express people simply being themselves.
Yes, the song is certainly about NOT hiding (sweeping) aspects of yourself (under the rug). This would suggest that you should just be who you are, be yourself.
That's why all the clips of people talking are just being themselves and being completely honest. Sure, there's nothing publically significant about personal stories and dreams, but these people are speaking something meaningful from their hearts. And that is what's important to them. And that's what should be important to you.

It's very disappointing that people have dismissed this song as meaningless. This is probably one of the most bittersweet emo songs I've ever heard once I realized what it was about. Even the style of music adds irony to the meaning.
The song is about a relationship that no longer means anything though it once meant everything. It's about looking past the **** in the word and being true to yourself. And it's about accepting the way things are, even if you hate the way they are. It's about change.
The fact that the song is title "Hair" just reinforces all of this. "Hello, how are you? Like you shoes, love your hair." is NOT shallow. It's almost depressing that there is nothing more than "shoes and hair" to mention in passing between two people who once shared SO much more. If anyone has ever been in a relationship with someone who has changed drastically to the point that you had to go separate ways, then you would understand this perfect.
I'm disappointed that so many people think this song is "stupid." He doesn't really like her hair and shoes, guys. There's just nothing worth saying anymore. Get it?
