i thought the voice was neil tennent as well. this is such a good song! super catchy, and i love the lyrics. anyway, i just read a bulletin posted by those operating rufus's official myspace. anyone who has tickets to one of his concerts this summer can try out and record himself/herself (youtube) doing the spoken word part of this song and then later perform it onstage. |

i agree, airwolf. they're kind of making fun of themselves, too. remember that they're from portland, which is basically the capital of pretentious turds. not that it isn't a cool city, but i'm just saying. the dandies know this. |

i was interested in seeing just how many people thought this to be about sex versus those who believed it to be completely literal. i'd like to think that it's literal, but when i listen to it, a few other alternatives come up. there's no wrong interpretation, guys! it's whatever you want haha you're so serious |

I skipped this song for a while when I first bought the cd, but I've grown to adore it. This track is one of my favorite displays of Jeff's vocal range. When it ends, I'm left completely baffled. How could he be that great? So beautiful. |

Interesting personal interpretation, OLPfan05, but Jeff Buckley was not a Christian. I doubt he wrote it with Jesus in mind, but it's okay if you look at it that way. I'm just saying that you're WRONG. Haha just kidding. I myself think it's more about society, about all of the hatred and racism in the world and how spreading it is a complete waste of one's life and potential as a human being. Passing racism onto one's children and being content in one's ignorance destroys any chance the world has for peace. |

Mike Mills once said (in one of the interviews on the In Time dvd, actually) that Stipe's lyrics could either be interpreted as sad or hopeful, and for me, in this song's case, it's a mixture of both. Very nostalgic. It's so beautiful, and it'll never get old. |

I've always linked this song to "Morning Theft" and Elizabeth Fraser. I think in the Dream Brother book it was stated that the relationship was not "completely platonic". It began as a friendship and respect for each other's work but later turned into a little fling of some sort. But hell, none of us can say for sure. Only Jeff and Elizabeth. |

| Jeff Buckley – Yard Of Blonde Girls Lyrics

I'm not sure if I'm in agreement with the first person who commented on this song, but it's just a matter of how you look at it, I guess. I always thought that this song meant that the typical blonde, manipulative, substance-lacking girls were the enemies. The sharks. I imagine a girl standing out among a sea of them all, with her own personality, her own views...the other girls may be very sexy but she is also attractive...in a whole other way...like she sets herself apart because of her genuineness and inexperience so that she's hopeful in a world of deceit...in the yard of blonde girls. Eh? I don't know haha. |

This certainly is atmospheric, as user Lilac Wine said. You can truly FEEL this song, see it, everything. Though Jeff didn't write it, it's safe to say that he is the one responsible for painting this strangely vivid picture for the listener. But also a bit of a foggy one. I don't really know...I can't explain it...his music just makes me weird. In a good way. I remember reading a quote from Jeff Buckley that was something like: words suggest an experience, but the voice IS that experience. This is a perfect example. Awesome cover. |

Are you saying that it's about hating big business and desk jobs, mycroft? What most of us are saying is that this song is about society, the injustices of the world and hatred breeding hatred due to uninformed, ignorant parents and what everyday life is for all of us. I don't think we're blaming people like you for all of the world's troubles. But...don't act like we couldn't use a few less of your kind!;) Especially the corrupt ones. |

Mmm...this song does not sound very happy to me. Is this about society or organized religion perhaps? Let's discuss the meaning of this instead of stating, "His voice sounds sexy as usual, yum yumzzzzz." Any ideas? |

| Jeff Buckley – Dream Brother Lyrics

Listening to Dream Brother for the first time, I knew that each line drew from the non-existent relationship with his father, or as Jeff referred to him, Tim. After reading the book, "Dream Brother," by David Browne, my theories were confirmed, as it was said to be a song to his friend, pleaing that he not abandon his pregnant girlfriend. Didn't mean to parrot the words of hang_on_to_a_dream haha. This song is so sad to listen to. For me, it's just a reminder of how short and painful Jeff's life really was. Abandoned, lost, pining, wondering, wandering, uneasiness. Of course, I'm not Jeff, and I didn't know him, but I just feel like he couldn't have been very satisfied during his life. |
