| Sufjan Stevens – The Seer's Tower Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think it could be about Christianity in general and the decision to join the Church. "He comes dividing man from brothers" reminds me a verse where Jesus speaks of the division caused in families when one decides to follow Him: "Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law." (Luke 12:51-53) | |

I hear "kissing girls for the shocks" in the first line like kellykel32. Also hear "She" instead of "you" in the second line. As in someone tells Kevin that "She" (Eva) must be an artist because she kisses girls to be shocking. That makes, "I was judging her friend as the DJ played a dead jam," hilarious. He's obviously not impressed and feels sorry for anyone who would. Reminds me of why I hate "I Kissed a Girl" (Katy Perry's) so much. It's a sad attempt at being scandalous. |

| The Features – Kari-Anne Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I listen to this song and imagine a guy who loves a girl who is thought to be too young and tries too hide his feelings from the ridicule of his friends until he doesn't care about what they think. | |

| Probably my favorite Features song. I imagine new parents amazed by their newborn (one week old). Excited by every little thing. Taking in this totally new and suprisingly surreal moment. | |

I don't think that this is Sufjan's decree that God is a jerk out to screw with us. Questioning God's intentions or love for us is not a subject ignored in Christianity, But is one that is discussed in the Bible itself. Job was faithful man but soon lost his wealth, his home, his health and worst of all his children. The whole book of Job is Job venting/ yelling at God. Many of the Psalms are David crying to God for life's pain. When listening to this song I am reminded of the intense bittersweet emotions I've experience when I've lost someone- They're gone and I loved them...But, I loved someone- what a blessing. But it hurts. "All the glory that the Lord has made And the complications when I see His face" It is complicated. God's glory and existence isn't rejected in this song but expresses that yearning to understand it all. We're left with his current feeling-"and he takes and he takes and he takes" but given the previous verses we know that Sufjan believes in His glory. (John 11:35) |

| Sufjan Stevens – The Lord God Bird Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
An alter call isn't just made for those who feel they need to be saved. Many times, those who come forward are seeking prayers from the congregation because of a struggle in their life, or are coming forward to seek forgiveness from other members. It's an admitance that repentance is needed in their life. The town of Brinkley AK had "sinned" against the Ivory Billled Woodpecker. Recognizing their sin they answered the "alter call", seeking forgiveness. Man has repented (or turned) by supporting and protecting the Lord God Bird this time around. On a side note: It's interesting that this bird has returned and saved the same town which almost destroyed him. Drawing an interesting (but probably unintended) parallel to Christ's exectution, resurrection and redemption for those who were responsible for his death. |
