Genesis – Cuckoo Cocoon Lyrics 19 years ago
Always thought this song was about Rael's first try of heroin, "There's nothing I can recognise; this is nowhere that I've known". The next line refers to the ecstasy that he feels but knows is created by the drug in him, "And I feel so secure that I know this can't be real, but I feel good."

Great comment by Pumpkinhed about how the experience is so pleasant it's disturbing. I really love the lyrics in the first verse, but the whole album was amazingly written by Peter Gabriel, " Wrapped up in some powdered wool - I guess I'm losing touch.
Don't tell me this is dying, 'cos I ain't changed that much. The only sound is water drops, I wonder where the hell I am, Some kind of jam?"

Later on, Rael's goes deeper into his addiction and brings his gang along, which is commented on in the song 'The Carpet Crawlers' (the skin itchiness that you get from Heroin use is personified in the title).

Genesis – The Carpet Crawlers Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah... the song seems to be around Rael's heroin use in the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. The itchiness of his skin (a side of effect) is represented by the image of creatures called 'carpet crawlers', and the line "We gotta get in to get out", refers to draw of addiction. Supporting this are lines like "Where the needles's eye is winking..." refering to some haven/house where Rael and his gang are shooting up.

"And the wise and foolish virgins giggle with their bodies glowing bright" refers to duality of their heroin use, as the maxim "the road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom", in that sense the 'heroin-virgins' of the gang are foolish to try something so easily dangerous, but they are ironically wise in the context of the quote. Their bodies are glowing bright from the high of heroin.

Amazing song.

Genesis – The Knife Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is awesome in every sense of the word. Gabriel's voice, the atmosphere and the lyrics are brilliant, I agree with Tinderbox that this is certainly about a militant group, the song seems written from the perspective of leader of such a group who fills impressionable followers minds with heroic promises. His crusade seems to be the only thing he has to live for 'tell me my life is about to begin', which is the same reason others follow him because they also have nothing to lose.

I love how Gabriel's voice seems distorted almost like in a radio in the lines "Martyrs of course to the freedom that I shall provide". It seems like after the line 'WE HAVE WON', the militant leader from whom the song is written from is the now the figure he was rebelling against, repeating the line almost from like a public annoucement system as propaganda, "Martyrs of course...".

Powerful, Brilliant.

Led Zeppelin – How Many More Times Lyrics 19 years ago
The song is AMAZING, especially on the Led Zeppelin DVD, a 20-minute sojourn, with Jimmy Page's mind blowing solo, the improvised jamming, Plant's stunning vocals and then his howl of 'gun' when they pound back into the openning riff. Just stunning.

As for the meaning, I think it's about a man's infidelity to his wife (with eleven children), to a schoolgirl named Rosie and how he realizes his mistake and pleads with his wife to come home realizing how he f**ked up.

A Perfect Circle – 3 Libras Lyrics 19 years ago
I've recently started thinking this song is written from the perspective of 3 demi-gods (3 Libras) to humanity and how despite their best efforts, humanity fucks up (through war or social injustice); i.e. "Threw you the obvious and you; Flew with it on your back"

The next stanza reflects that despite man's achievements, we're still emotionally unevolved and fight amongst each other irrationally like children to mask our vulnerablilty, "Difficult not to feel a little bit
Disappointed... To see you naked but oblivious"

"Here I am expecting just a little bit
Too much from the wounded
But I see, see through it all
See through, see you"

This stanza is about how the 3 Libras can't really expect much from humanity which has wounded itself, and despite any rationalization and intentions about war or oppression, they see through it.

After seeing ''apparently nothing'' behind the tragedy of humanity, it doesn't see the 3 Libras, at least not in the way they're supposed to be seen, which is a reflection on the selectively religious; for example Evangelical or Fundamentalist Christians who while they may be against homosexuality, they forget Christ taught tolerance and associated himself with the poorest/most outcast from society, or despite being anti-abortion, don't support social justice causes nearly as vehemently (such as legislature to aleviate poverty). The whole song is really about how humanity has distorted religion, to the point if their respective deity were to return, they would be far removed from contemporary beliefs.
