Dx I'm sure this song is primarily something else, but yes, every song on the album ties into global warming. |

| Modest Mouse – Fire It Up Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Etceteranough = Is there enough? CORRECT LYRICS: [For the most part anyways.] Is there enough? (x8) Fire it up, fire it up When we finally turn it over Make a beeline towards the border Have a drink, you've had enough Fire it up, fire it up If you need some conversation Bring a magazine to read around our broke down transportation Fire it up Is there enough? (x3) Fire it up, fire it up When we find the perfect water We'll hang out on the shore just long enough to leave our clothes there Find enough, find enough Oh we ate all of the oranges off the navels of our lovers grabbed a book and read the cover It honestly was beautifully done Like trying to hide the daylight from the sun But even if we had been sure enough it's true we really didn't know Even if we knew which way to head but still we probably wouldn't go Fire it up, fire it up We pushed off we're rolling boulders crashing down the mirrored stairways two of life's best mine canaries Fire it up, fire it up When we fix the carburetor then we'll push off once again in an hour or so later It honestly was beautifully bold Like trying to save an ice cube from the cold But even if we had been sure enough it's true we really didn't know Even if we knew which way to head but still we probably wouldn't go Well we always (x2) had it all (x2) (x3) |

This song is severely beautiful. I highly doubt it was about something as solid and trivial as prom. MM doesn't seem like the prom-song-writing type of band. I see this as one of those third-party-perspectives. As in, there's this person who is watching all these events occur, events that don't connect with each other, and however trivial or important it was, this person did not care, just stood as an impartial viewer. However, something trivial came up and he begins to think it has some deeper meaning. But since he's been living life as a bystander, he does not want to participate, wants to continue being a wallflower. And the nature of this person also relates to the ending lyrics. I doubt a wallflower would feel at home with other people surrounding him, yet they thrive on those other people's situations to be a part of life. The Bukowski bit: People have described Bukowski's fiction as a "detailed depiction of a certain taboo male fantasy: the uninhibited bachelor, slobby, anti-social, and utterly free." Anti-social and free sounds about right. |

Yah. It does sound a bit like The View. It's not Modest Mouse without good old pessimistic irony. |

Ah. I can't believe no one's commented this song yet. This has a pretty edgey feel to it. "All them books I didn't read They just sat there on my shelf Looking much smarter than me" Ah. I adore those lines. Anyways, as it's been stated multiple times, this is a theme album. The theme being global warming. So anyway, that's where a bunch of this stuff ties in: "Our instincts, they were cringing About how we lived our lives It didn't seem we'd lived enough To even get to die All these dense distractions So beautifully complex Well, I loved life's surprises so much I don't want to know what's ahead" And whatnot. |

| Tally Hall – Smile Like You Mean It Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Yah, they did the cover specifically for the show. I like it far more than the Killers version, seeing as they're better vocalists in general, and the harmonies and overall sense of confidence. It was powerful and I was pretty much blown away... :'D I love it. |

Yes, the potato monkey reference is indeed correct. =) (And then it says, "I stepped in gum, I stepped in gum, ohoho!" and "A sculptor you say, well..." and "...---two scissors and a computer".) I really want someone to post the full meaning of this song. |

| Modest Mouse – Edit the Sad Parts Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song is beautiful. And seriously, probably about human nature much like the vast majority of the MM songs. Personally I like the, "Why are you judging people so damn hard You're taking your point of views a bit too far" lines the most. =) Always biblical allusions, human nature, cynicism, and impending doom. Sigh. Infinitely lovely. |

| Modest Mouse – Florida Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Mmkay, so in an interview in Spin, Isaac pretty much said that this album was about global warming, hence the watery allusions, doomsday, and death. (Florida would in fact be the first to go.) "We were all drowsing in cruise control" seems to back up that statement. |

I cannot believe this hasn't been mentioned! (Or maybe I'm just too lazy to check.) This song, and album, is wholly about global warming. Check it out. ;D |

The line, "Cause in your plans you were all for me" Is actually, in my plans you were all for me. Thereby changing the meaning like a lot. Haha. And I really like this song. I just want to find some sort of deeper meaning. xD |

| Tally Hall – Ruler of Everything Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Ahh. I love Tally Hall. =D Mmkay so, "You understand mechanical hands are the ruler of everything" = "Time rules everything" Hands on a clock, that type of thing. Zirconium = Used to make fake diamonds, while pretty, has no real value. The deep voice is time, and the higher voice is people. Esp. during "do you like how I walk, do you like how I talk"/"do you like how my face disintergrates into chalk" - Showing ageing. People are egocentric; we consider ourselves important. We can do things like make money and start families. The material possessions "you" or people in general, surround themselves with, can do nothing against the flow of time. This is quite a cynical song if you think about it. Haha. -Ani |
