Cat Stevens – Father And Son Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is not about a son wishing to go off and fight a war, but a Russian peasant looking to go off and fight for the glorious revolution after the working class seized power in 1917 under the leadership of Lenin.

The son wishes to go off and 'make a change' and the father is obviously hostile to this.

It's a shame Stevens doesn't ackowledge this in his later inerviews.

Manic Street Preachers – If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is now especially poignant considering the rise of islmanic fundamentalism(essentially fascism) and the growth of the BNP in England. I think the message is quite clear throught the song, that if you tolerate fascism in any way, ultimately it will not only be you that suffers but your children, as many Spanish people would testify.

The Libertines – Time For Heroes Lyrics 19 years ago
I think a few have missed the point with the 'fewer more distressing sights than that of an englishman in a baseball cap'. As he says straight after they will die in the class they were born, ie the same as him, i.e the working class. Sure they may have faults, but we'll all live and die together. He embraces elements of working class culture, lived in Breck Road for a significant period (a strong working class area of Liverpool) and talks of 'Reebok Classics' in his ode to the working class 'Albion'. I've also heard him singing 'class of all my love' before, which again indicates he feels at one with the baseball cap lot. I've ever heard him sing 'carlos in a santa clause hat', again suggesting he loves the people who wear a baseball cap (working class people) and feels they will die in the same class as him.

Ian Brown – Keep What Ya Got Lyrics 19 years ago
Jesus once said, "it is easier for a camel to thread through the eye of a needle in a sandstorm, than it is for a rich man to enter heaven" and told the rich young man to sell all his possessions and give to the poor. With references too heaven in the song, I think Brown in picking up on that specifically in the chorus. 'Keep what you got, by giving it all away' is a very powerful message really

Oasis – Whatever Lyrics 19 years ago
I love this song, it's about being young and rebellious. Pete Doherty before going into court decided he'd start playing it on his acoustic guitar and singing it, he was already late in for court!
I think the bit 'i'm free to be whatever I, whatever I choose and I'll sing the blues if I want' may be about his football team Manchester City who play in blue?
