| Imogen Heap – Angry Angel Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
to me this is about her liking/loving someone who is much disapproved of by others. he is careless and frivolous in the way he lives his life and the 'angry angel' she speaks of is basically her being concious that he is a loose canon, and that she is disappointing people by associating with him. all the same, she sees that people disapprove and still loves it. in the second verse, it almost sees like she envies the way that he simply doesn't care - she seems to admire him for his breaking free. it seems to me that a big part of what she likes about him is his incessant self destructive behaviour that momentarily feels good. there could be references here to some sort of drug abuse, but i'm not sure. either wayyy, amazeee song! |

| Imogen Heap – Goodnight and Go Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i definitely got the stalking vibe! this one of mine & my boyfriend's songs, & we mused upon how odd the stalking part was...the line that puts it up there as one of my favourite songs ever is 'why do you have to be so cute? it's impossible to ignore you. must you make me laugh so much? it's bad enough we get along so well.' this is lovely because it's just saying how the fact they have such a nice, close relationship makes it harder for her to cope with her feelings. it also shows that the person concerned really makes her happy; which is just plain sweet. i can empathise with these lyrics, which is a quality that i find a lot in imogen heap/frou frou's music. :] | |

this song is amazing. i know i definitely i wish i could how much he means to me and for this reason this song really gets me. the way that it is describing their developing relationship and how much a father and son learn from eachother is very touching. 'Out on the moors. We take a pause. See how far we have come.' - shows how the relationship between the father and son matures over time, how it is something that has to be worked at and nurtured. the 'guess i'm still your child' really captures how even though we may grow apart, parents will always be a large part of you and will always be very important. brings a tear to my eye! |

| The Postal Service – This Place Is a Prison Lyrics | 19 years ago |

'And I know that it's not a party if it happens every night' is a demonstration of how careful you have to be to not cross the boundary between having a lot of fun by drinking/doing drugs and gaining an addiction. people often make excuses for excessive drug use or alcohol abus, like 'they just like to have a couple of drinks at a party to have fun' - and this lyric is pointing out that if that 'party' is happening every night and the circumstances are changing, it's no longer a party but an excuse to drink. "And the tumblers are drained And then flooded again and again" - definitely a reference to alcohol abuse. |

before looking on here, i definitely thought that some aspects of this song related to some form of rehabilitation, and i assumed this was for alcoholism...this was just a gut feeling supported by the odd lyric (A vinyl sticker with big block letters / And the only thing keeping me dry is where I am / A stranger with your door key Explaining that I am just visiting) however having read the varying opinions on this song i can see how it could be about a visiting a friend who has changed. there are some things in this song though that wouldn't really fit with the theory that it's an old girlfriend or friend ie. the line about staying dry. i think perhaps the beauty of the postal service songs is that they can be interpretted in more than way, and can bear relevance to past experiences depending on how you choose to read the lyrics. another brilliant song. |
