well atleast there's one more person in the world who's heard this one- "ice' who submitted the lyrics. well its a pretty self-explanatory one but what makes it a good song as a whole is the great tune and the passion with which its sung. one doesn't have to have been in the situation to undertsnad. and yes as always its the guy giving an affirmation of 'love and courage' to the woman- but still sounds good. |

thanks ppl. the explication of the spanish bit in the song was helpful. love shakira cause she writes about sensuality and a woman's pleasure without being obscene..." my hips dont lie". she n wyclef compliment each other as voices amazingly. like her dance cause its not of the ultra-feminine variety- there's power and but also overwhelming grace. |

well really liked ily's n sevia's comments on the song.
however, going beyond them i also feel that there's this ambiguity and fluctuation of mood in the song. while i do feel that she's afraid to hurt her partner/lover, there's also an anger in her- 'would u be kind enough to let...' and i think that while the cat could refer to her but it also brings in the mundaneness of conversation between them now- the song captures these details- unread book, painful look, silent tv etc. it is the mundane beneath the apparently happy surface. these words also seem to tell us about the way in which a lot is being said between the two without using actual words- because that would mean a concrete acceptance of how things stand as well as the compulsion to take action- by walking out and walking away. the song remains as the silent thoughts inside her head. it is because of this dimension that i think the song speaks to so many people. as an unarticulated hope of liberation, of enjoying one's self once again. |
