Red Hot Chili Peppers – Wet Sand Lyrics 19 years ago
I haven't read through all of these comments, so maybe this has already been said, but to my understanding the lines "You don't form in the wet sand/I do" means something like... Anthony has been able to make himself something. In the beginning he was addicted to drugs and careless and arrogant. But then the tide came in and washed away that part of him and he was able to reform himself in the wet sand. I dunno. Maybe I'm talking out of my butt, but that's how I've always seen it XD Other than that, I think this has a lot to do with Anthony's past and how he's come to terms with it and is ready to move away from it and towards something better. And how he's finally in love for real and not just for a cheap thrill.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Gold Lion Lyrics 19 years ago
This sorta seems like a song about doing the deed, to me. "Take our hands out of control," and the lyric I hear is "It was a crowd of seeds" (kinda like sperm?) "I must have done a dozen each" PEOPLE?! KAREN! hehe "I've been around a few" like around the block. Also, I hear "cold desire" not "cold as I"

Auf Der Maur – Skin Receiver Lyrics 19 years ago
Hm, I used to think this song was about a prostitute, but then I heard a story from melissa (she posted on her official forums) about how Steve wrote it.

The story goes that the song was written just as Melissa was leaving for Hole. Steve wrote it for Melissa... "She's seen it before, but she still wants more" is about performing and maybe performing to a larger audience.

Also could be about a heroin junkie. I love Melissa's lyrics, because past the silliness there is a deep metaphorical factor. Now obviously I just said Steve wrote the song, but other AdM songs are very hard to understand, too. It leaves things open for interpretation, and I really like the other explanations of the songs.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Daydream Lyrics 19 years ago
Billy only did drugs pre-Siamese Dream, right? I'm pretty sure that's right... then he quit... or something.

Maybe I'm wrong.

I don't really care...

The Smashing Pumpkins – Crestfallen Lyrics 19 years ago
This song sorta reminds me of the movie/musical Moulin Rouge.

Christian (the man) wants Satine (the prostitute) so much, but "[her] life is not [her] own."

"Who am I to need you now?/To ask you why, to tell you no/To deserve your love and sympathy/You were never meant to belong to me." Just sorta going over the facts: She doesn't want to be in a relationship because she's got to be a prostitute.

Christian doesn't want to give up Satine, but she isn't ready to fully give up her whole life for the man she truly loves.

Now, I'm not saying Billy wrote this song about Moulin Rouge, I highly doubt that since Adore came out before the movie. But I'm just saying it's interesting.

I think you've all hit the nail on the head.

I find it funny that this is about the screwed up music industry, and yet they STILL ate it up with pleasure. It was a popular song and would have been even more popular if not for the video.

I, too, have always found it to be about a prostitute, but I doubt it's about courtney. don't ask me why, I just do.

I think you've all pretty much said what I've been thinking.

The Smashing Pumpkins – 1979 Lyrics 19 years ago
I read about the meaning of this in an interview *searches for interview*

"Back in 1979, I was bigger than most kids by a lot. When I was 12 I led my baseball team in home runs. By the time I was 14, I had been totally passed up. That's when I turned to guitar." - Billy Corgan

So you're all pretty much right about it being about feeling useless and bored in suburbia, but I think it went a little deeper than that for Billy personally (doesn't it always? ;])
