Týr – Shadow of the Swastika Lyrics 12 years ago
This one's pretty simple--Heri's lashing out at the know-nothing pearl-clutchers who wanted to ban him and a bunch of other pagan metal outfits from playing in Germany because they had the gall to use ancient Germanic imagery, then turning right around and yelling at the actual Nazis who appropriated our heritage and turned it into something repulsive.

Five Finger Death Punch – No One Gets Left Behind Lyrics 15 years ago
"No One Gets Left Behind" is a USMC credo--they take a lot of pride in never leaving one of their own to rot on the battlefield. But when this generation of citizen-soldiers come home, they're gonna be abandoned not by their comrades, but by the people who sent them off to war in the first place.

Five Finger Death Punch – No One Gets Left Behind Lyrics 16 years ago
The point of the song is encapsulated right here:

Politicians bathing in their greed
No idea on how to be all they can be

This conflict was started by and for wealthy pigs who've never pointed a gun at anything bigger than a grouse, never even contemplated risking their own lives, let alone taking another's with their bare hands. People who've never faced death have no business sending others to their own.

And incidentally, Soviet Russia and Imperial Britain were stopped with nonviolent protest and a buttload of careful diplomacy. And no, none of it consisted of Ronald Ha'messiach marching into Berlin and blowing a shofar until the wall disintegrated.

Mildly funny: The fact that FFDP is basically saying what the Dixie Chicks said in 2006--but it has more impact, because they say it with the voices of dead soldiers.
Very funny: The fact that some of the people reading this will interpret the above as an insult.

Five Finger Death Punch – War Is The Answer Lyrics 16 years ago
Has nothing to do with Liberalism--I'm a liberal and I know violence is sometimes necessary. It's like using antibiotics; it doesn't actually SOLVE the problem, it just makes it go away. Sometimes that's the only thing that can save your life, because there are problems in this world that can't BE solved--but relying on it the way we are right now is just weakening us, because the handful of problems that don't go away are just getting bigger and bigger. The song's about finally understanding and giving up on the kind of people who constitute such a problem--the Fundamentalists and Neocons of the world, the ones who can't just be talked down, the ones who are gonna kill half the human race and drag everyone else back into the Dark Ages if they aren't exterminated. Even a pacifist knows that sometimes, somebody just has to die.

Peter, Paul and Mary – Lemon Tree Lyrics 16 years ago
Back in 2003, the last two lines of the chorus were part of my signature on the first forum I ever joined. I was a smug, cynical, sexually and emotionally repressed little bastard. Now, almost six years later to the day, when I hear the last chorus of this song, I picture the narrator sitting under the lemon tree with a new lover--sipping lemonade.

"Hammer out" in the creative sense--creating a rhythm, sounding a call.

This is an old, Welsh lullaby--one that my mother used to sing to me. Just reading the lyrics is enough to make me cry, for some reason...
