i thought this song connected to "Come On! Feel the Illinoise!" with the lines: "I cried myself to sleep last night And the ghost of Carl, he approached my window I was hypnotized, I was asked To improvise On the attitude, the regret Of a thousand centuries of death" thats what I immediately thought of when he sang in part 3: "Stupid man in the window, I couldn't be at rest All my delight, all that mattered, I couldn't be at rest From what I liked, from what I gathered, I couldn't be at rest Stupid man in the window, I couldn't be at rest" maybe im the only one who thought so. I also like Shara Worden's guest vocal here (aka My Brightest Diamond). fantastic song. thanks sufjan |

I like Bjork's meaning of this piece more than the shorthand wikipedia version. It makes a lot more sense about the innocence of a 5 year old, touching an older man's beard and not realizing the eroticism it will invoke in the future and connect with the innocence she felt back then. I like the whole idea of capturing the environment which makes the meaning even harder for her. hence, genius. http://unit.bjork.com/specials/gh/FT/cubes/sykur.html |

| Animal Collective – Lion in a Coma Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| If you say Lion in a Coma really fast, it can sound like "Lying in a coma"...just a thought after learning that "What Would I Want Sky" is just a sped up version of Walk while I Wonder. I'd like to think it wasn't the first time they've used that technique to make words sound different and have double meanings | |
| Animal Collective – For Reverend Green Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| If you say For Reverend Green fast, it can sound like Forever in Green.... something I picked up while learning about "What Would I Want? Sky" (ie: it's really "Walk while I wonder" just sped up) | |

Well since this album is a concept album about making a concept album... I've always heard this song as the narrator getting a brain storm for his song. He walks down the street, and is influenced by this or that, from social activities to the sounds outside. Thats why I love how the song builds, in bits and pieces and then it unravels itself out into this gorgeous dissonant piece. The drums are scattered, cello melody unfinished and the bells chime and then everything does erupt into a thought, to w/e he feels at the moment and erupts into said beauty. My favorite on the whole cd i think. |

| Björk – Vertebrae By Vertebrae Lyrics | 17 years ago |

this song reeks of Stravinsky! and i love it! absolutely amazing how it is very primal in the horns like Stravinsky used in his early ballets and it works super well here. I just love the beginning how the wind howls like you are on the cliff. The imagery in the music is set amazingly. And after "set the clock to the moon and raises her spine" and she howls like she's changing into the werewolf. chilling... Absolutely amazing. It's definitely about how people have an inner beast and sometimes we have to let it out. At the same time I feel like she's resentful of this angry side of her because it's been eating at her so long and just wants to get it out. KarmaPoliceman hit it on the nail though i think. Definitely feeling the set idea as well. |

| The Killers – Human Lyrics | 17 years ago |

It's dancer, check wikipedia and the song info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_(The_Killers_song) anywho, maybe its because i just broke up a 2 year relationship, but it really hits home that way (a relationship point of view). i'm really shocked how gorgeous this song is, and i like his upper register more and more every time i hear Brandon Flowers sing this song. Really amazing track. Oh and the cd overall is great :-P |

| Kanye West – Coldest Winter Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i love how he samples from Tears for Fears 1983 album Hurting with the song Memories Fade. Such a genius sample that would go unnoticed. Great song, and while its about his mom anyone can definitely use this for a break-up scenario. Absolutely awesome, fans of this song will love Streetlights. the cd is great btw, get it |

this is freakishly the most beautiful song i've heard this year. I think if you handed this to someone and didn't tell them it was Kanye West they'd be impressed. And then theres the factor that it IS kanye west and your respect for him as an artist just gets higher. This whole cd is mind blowing really, and how good his melodies are. He really has crafted an excellent Pop Art cd. This song is just 2 unreal... so good |

| Owen – A Bird In Hand Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think its a play on words a bird in your hand = a burden, your hand kind of like he's married (You know what you are to me, Don't make me say it over and over again. My left hand) stuck but in the end he still loves her. no matter what. I think thats why he says at the end "when i put on a suit and say I do, I mean it" because despite all the hardships, he still is married to her, because he really means that he loves her |

| Cursive – A Gentleman Caller Lyrics | 19 years ago |

so does this song scare anyone in the middle of the night, listening to the cd while you're falling asleep? because it does. I don't understand why Cursive's songs aren't used in horror movies because they would do so well! newho But in the morning On the sober dawn of Sunday You're not sure what you have done Who told you love was fleeting? Sometimes men can be so misleading To take what they need from you "Who told you love was fleeting?" connects to Excerpts From Various Notes Strewn Around The Bedroom Of April Connolly as well as the verse "On the sober dawn of Sunday" connects to the drunken boyfriend Trevor Post!!! How I love Tim Kasher and Cursive. |

| Cursive – Art Is Hard Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The whole Ugly Organ cd is an album about a concept album. The cd is filled with generic topics used by bands and this song shows how bands stick to generic formulas (a-b-a-b'-b, standard pop form) Perfectly describes how some bands do sound like their idols and that they try to hard sometimes to the point of selling out. Of course Tim bashes himself for satiracle (sp?) purposes to better exemplify his purpose of the song. | |
