Patrick Watson – The Great Escape Lyrics 18 years ago
I actually have to agree with the people that say this song is about suicide. Mostly for these reasons:
The lines "Gets in his car and drives away.." "Breathes it in and breathes it out" and "Eat up all of the grey" strongly suggest this is about someone gassing themselves to death with a car. I know it sounds morbid and horrible, but to me that's just how it seems.

That's not to say, though, that that's the only meaning of this song. It's just the one that stood out to me for personal reasons.

Joanna Newsom – Emily Lyrics 19 years ago
I think that Joanna could possibly be discussing the similarities between herself and Emily Dickinson.
One of the main parts that pointed me in this direction was "Dumbstruck with the sweetness of being", as Dickinson often claimed that she enjoyed simply living, and that was enough.

As well, this may explain the parts about "finding her way back in", and the parts discussing the talk in the town, etc, as Dickinson lived alone for large parts of her life, and some even speculated she may've been crazy, which would all fit these lyrics.

Just what I think, anyway.

Annuals – Brother Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a great song, very Arcade Fire-ish. And that's a very, very good thing. It's a shame that so few people have heard of these guys, they're really doing a great job.

The Dresden Dolls – Ampersand Lyrics 19 years ago
To me, the part about "playing hospital" and questioning how authentic the wounds are seems like it may be about self injury. This is a common theme in Amanda's songs (Bad Habit, for example), and it seems as if it may hold true here, as well, even if in a minor way. It seems that she's been trying to pass off the wounds as accidents, and someone (probably someone she's "with") sees right through it.
