Rick Wakeman is one of the kings of prog wankery - in the 70's he was putting out concept album after concept album with over-the-top themes such as the wives of Henry the Eight and Return to the Center of the Earth. His production of an album based on King Arthur ended up bankrupting him because of its stage costs. As Mikeofreak said, prog is notorious for song length, and concept albums are generally 40+ minute pieces which are intended to be listened to in one sitting - while many of the songs may have individual merit, Wakeman's songs often included narration which gave you the feeling of listening to one giant song. Thus the diss. Take that, Rick Wankman. |

| Bright Eyes – The Invisible Gardener Lyrics
| 19 years ago

'The Invisible Gardener' may be a reference to a philosophical debate about the existence of God. Basically, some people are walking in the woods and come upon a grove. One man insists there must be a gardener to plant the grove, another says there is none. They set up all sorts of traps to catch the gardener, but none appears. Still, the 'believer' keeps qualifying his belief to make the evidence fit. The story is used as an argument for how some people who believe in God will keep believing no matter how much evidence is apparently to the contrary.
So, yeah...It's a really nice song, I like it. |
