Reminds me of the girl I'm with right now. Id love to break her walls down, and I've just figured out why. Its mostly for selfish and macho reasons. she is self admittedly not very affectionate and i know there's some dark in her past. Take note on how the lyrics refer to himself and his needs more than hers. I think every guy wants an upper hand in a relationship and not fully capturing a girls heart can be pretty unsettling. he wants to bury her past but its mostly for his own gain if you really think about it from that angle.

if they hired a better producer/mixer huh? I went to high school with most of these guys, their drummer is fresh out of high school, the rest of the guys are fresh outta the university of michigan. Its a little ridiculous for you to think theyd have those types of funds- theyre workin their way up like all bands. But I will say if you have heard any of their old DIY recordings they almost did a better job themselves. The synth had way more of a presence like their demo version of Lights Off. I also think your right in the fact that it needs more depth, the drums should have more kick, and the guitar/vocal clearity isnt stellar. And is it about sex? Im not sure. Definitely some sort of energy between jon and the lady of subject. |

this is pretty fucking incorrect, I go to school in the UP by choice and can tell you it is still full of resources especialy when you consider the population density. There are only 317,258 residents compared to say the 900K+ people that live in Detroit proper. There are still quarries, mills, tourism by way of the national and state parks system, four universities, one of the biggest bodies of fresh water in lake superior... Now do not get me wrong, there is all kinds of lower middle class scattered through-out the huge region- I just get more of a sense of seclusion and limited dreams/possibilities from the song. The continued riff is pretty epic though its kind of dreamy and vast, just the feeling you get upon crossing the mackinaw bridge. Fuck you nay-sayers... The UP is a great place to be it's vast, people here are very nice, and you can really create your own reality up here. |

I know it's sort of old but I just discovered this album and can't get this song out of my head! I think it's all about gaining a perspective on life and realizing it may be impossible to leave some crazy legacy at the point of review, but taking time to realize you have a good life anyway. Our country is one of all kinds of crazy checks and balances that make things really stable, I think they definitly hit on this with the lyrics. Things of intrigue and want are continually mentioned but theres always a check mentioned like the line "it thunders like a river" (dangerous yet intreging and adventurous) yet it's cold just like a stream (comfortable and settling, yet staying in it too long is uncomfortable)."dance to some broken chords"- celebrating that which might not be perfect but is yours, like the "American Way" of life. The singer really has a good perspective! Consider the song and the direction of your life. |

Great song- lyrical content makes the situation pretty obvious, it can just be insanely hard to be attracted to a good girl who isn't perfect for whatever reason. Maybe she was too innocent, maybe she's looking for love that's just not there? Perhaps he thinks he'll just side-track her from the rest of her life because a future isn't possible.Oh and fyi the dude who sings for Glassjaw did the keys for this track. |

The musicianship on this song is beyond brutal, but the lyrics disgust me. I'm not religious, but suicide is way too complex to be cast off as a simple act of cowardus. Perhaps they would gain more believers if their lyrics were more abstract or thought provoking, but they are blunt, simple, and I could have done better in third grade. I can see how it would be hard to understand suicide if you haven't been in that position, but being closed minded like this singer is far bigger of an offense in my book. Someone who considers or goes through with suicide probably knows far more about the world, and is more intelligent than anyone in this band. As far as you who talked about bitchy emo lyrics yeah... they can be a bit graining but on the same token at least those types of lyrics deal with real issues, this song is as concrete as your standard rap jam. Being a negative piece of shit is far eaiser to pull off than digging deep and expressing true feeling. That's my 2 cents. |

maybe the lyrics are so conflicting because he wants people to consider and question faith and see if it works for them, it does not work for me but i can see why it does for others. The religious lyrics on this album could go either way and the only thing thats for sure is that jessie has probably had periods of his life where he did, and did not believe in god. To never question religion is the biggest mistake a person could make in life. Like is it worth fucking the environment further by driving 10 miles to church every sunday in your minivan to plea forgiveness from some being which probably doesn't exist? Get off your computers and go hiking or something. |

such an epic song... reminds me of the aftermath of a stressful night at a blue collar job to me. The singer then seems contimplative on the way home, maybe considering if the job is worth the stress, maybe contemplating taking a different path. Just reminds me of my labor days getting off work at 11 pm with nothing to do but watch late night tv and think about my future. That may be way off from what the songs about but its perfectly relevant to me in that sense. |

I don't think the focus is on drugs as much as the antagonist doing something hurtful to the singer. It is apparent that the antagonist is on drugs though. Anyone know what the foreign language translated is? |

This song is so fucking epic. I don't think it is about religion as much as a self realization. He is definatly matured and cannot shake a burdon in his life. I was almost thinking it could have to do with alcohol being his millstone and the ship of fools being people of a bar scene. That's just a shot in the dark; this song is very open for interpretation. |

I think this song is about having troubles socializing. To me it's about feeling an urge to come out from under your rock but in the end realizing society can be fake and unaccepting. It is also about experimenting in some way or another. |
