Alanis Morissette – Hands Clean Lyrics 19 years ago
well, can't you feel different for someone in one day or the other? Alanis wrote MANY of her songs about this particular man, I am sure, and the just can't all sound the same! After all, Alanis is still a musician who wants to sell her music, so she can't write 20 identical sons, can she?!

Anyway, I am so glad I read your posts, I never noticed these lyrics were splitted into two parts and as a result, I never really understood the song! It helps me very much in order to understand this particular song and Alanis' whole life.

By the way, some of you said, it was about a man in show bizz whom she wants to show what she's amounted to without him. Do you think "Right through you" could also be about the same person?

I read, that "You oughtta know" was about dave cloutier, too.

I would not be surprised if "Flinch" and "This Grudge" were about him, too. Anyway, I am pretty sure these two songs are about the same man, she will probably never really be able to let go off....

Alanis Morissette – Knees of My Bees Lyrics 19 years ago
This is the song that made me notice Alanis had changed a lot (!) since "under rug swept".
In all her records before her most of the lyrics and music was melancholic in prevailling mood, you felt like Alanis would never find the right man ... and there he finally was! At first I was disappointed about "So Called Chaos" because I felt like Alanis had betraied herself (she cut her hair, dressed more stylish, smiled a lot more ... ) and her way of writing such profound songs. But by the time I realized - especially because of "Knees of my Bees" - that I was happy for her.

Alanis Morissette – 21 Things I Want in a Lover Lyrics 19 years ago

If you know most og Alanis' other lyrics you can be sure, that this song is not satirical, but absolutely serious.

do you have a big intellectual capacity but know that it alone does not equate wisdom?

are you both masculine and feminine?
politically aware?
and don't believe in capital punishment?

are you uninhibited in bed?
more than three times a week?
up for being experimental?
are you athletic?

These and many more things are values she appreciates in life, in herself and also in other people, that's why I am sure she is looking for exactly these things in her lover as well.

Moreover, if she'd wanted to make "satirical comment on how people have such set, picky ideas of what they want from someone", probably she would have picked out more superficial examples!
