Elton John – I've Seen the Saucers Lyrics 12 years ago
On the surface it's a parody of 1950s SciFi sung by someone who's secretly complicit with the aliens. At the end of the song it sounds as if they've abducted him.

In hindsight however it sounds like a very clever coming out song which makes "gay panic" ludicrously melodramatic.

Fucked Up – Black Albino Bones Lyrics 15 years ago
Oh holy fucking shit...the song is about:

a)Rock n roll

b) sex

c)drugs

I've heard this song at least thirty times before that dawned on me.

Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit Lyrics 16 years ago
Definitely the best breakdown I've read so far.

I one thing I'll add is the Cold War as played out in Vietnam.
The White Knight talking backwards would be American hypocrisy as playing the "good guys" in essentially a game of neocolonial domination. The Red Queen would be the USSR who are no better. The men on the chessboard would thus be mainstream social conformity, but also the military who had an active draft.

Michael Jackson – Rock With You Lyrics 16 years ago
Angie Stone at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia last week:

Angie; And when the grove is dead and gone
You know that ... (points microphone)

Crowd of hundreds: LOVE SURVIVES

Angie: so we can (points microphone)

Crowd of hundreds: ROCK FOREVER !!

Mike's legacy is a pretty mixed affair, but I almost lost it

LCD Soundsystem – Losing My Edge Lyrics 17 years ago
I just listened to this on an mp3 disk of the Pitchfork 500. Part of me feels that this ironic critique of /love letter to hipsterism should be the last song on the disk.

Which I guess means that this song should end all music for all time.

[The other--amongst many ironies--this established Murphy as "cutting edge"]

[for now]
