Modest Mouse – Dramamine Lyrics 19 years ago
"Travelling swallowing Dramamine
Feeling spaced breathing out listerine "

This song could mean a buncha different things. At 1st I thought of this line just referring to a person feeling sick emotionally and or physically, taking dramamine (Dramamine = Gravol) for the motion sickness or upset stomach, and the smell of listerine on his breath, because of vomiting.

I also kinda realized that these 2 products or probably some of the cheapest/easiest to get/lowest ways of getting a cheap high/drunk. Feeling low and doing whatever just to change your train of thought, escape for a while.

Anyways, I wouldn't recomend it, and i'm glad I got over the phase of just wanting to be high all of the time (Although rarely was). I was a stupid kid and I popped some gravol one night. Only about half the dose of what people usually would take to get high off it, but let this be my personal PSA to anybody who reads this...don't do it. It's not fun. Read about peoples experiences on dramamine @ www.erowid.org, and that should be enough reason. Anywho, that's my 2 cents, don't spend it all in one place. Oh, good fricken' song btw.

Our Lady Peace – Are You Sad? Lyrics 19 years ago
This is deffinitely one of those songs (among many) that gives you the chills, if you're in the right mood.

"stop pretending,
When they say you're nothing. "

It sounds like this person is giving up, and it seems as if she's come to a realization that what "they" have been saying is true, and she's going along with it. When you sink that low in depression, or have such a low self-esteem, I can imagine these thoughts and feelings become very real. This song is a way of reaching out, and I think Raine says is perfectly in the intro to the live version of the song.

The Weakerthans – Pamphleteer Lyrics 19 years ago
"All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned, and man is at at last compelled to face with sober senses, his real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind." -- Karl Marx and Frederick Engels

That's what's found in the album booklet before this song's lyrics are printed. I just bought Left and leaving and I'm looking/listening thru it now, so I thought I'd drop this, since there's nothing better to do. Awesome album, BTW.

Sloan – I Can Feel It Lyrics 19 years ago
I just bought Twice Removed the other day for like 5 bucks at a used record joint in town. It's good stuff.

Most's self explanitory here, but i'm stuck on one thing...
"Happy birthday
To the best brother in the world"
Maybe i'm just not picking up on it, or maybe it's something personal to the band themselves, ..any ideas?

"Three
Three's nothin' out of ten"

This line always brings up the imagery of turning up the car stereo, or the knobs on a guitar or amp. It also reminds me of Spinal Tap, which is always good ahah.

Anyways, great song, and great way to end the album on a positive note. Unless you just got dumped... yeah I wouldn't advise listening, unless you're in denial, then it'd probably be your anthem.

I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business – The Best Happiness Money Can Buy Lyrics 19 years ago
I kind of laughed when I heard how they rehashed that old country/bluegrass bassline. Yeehaw.

Ryan Adams – Come Pick Me Up Lyrics 19 years ago
I discovered this song through "Elizabethtown".
Yeah...Shutup. Orlando Bloom or not, it's still a good movie, and it's directed by Cameron Crowe so, 'nuff said.

"come pick me up
take me out
fuck me up"

Way to easy for me to relate to these lines. From where I live, and by the fact that I can't afford insurance...I'm pretty used to the idea of being picked up, or atleast wishing to be. I think the next lines just convey the idea of going out and having a good time.

"steal my records"

I think that now we're getting into the mindset that this guy really cares about whoever this person, and is willing to see through anything to be with her, even if she steals his record [Trust me, I've had my CD booklet stolen...it hurts.]

"screw all my friends"
I kind of like how this line is kinda ambiguous , in the way that it can be taken 2 ways. One ties into what I just talked about, the more literal sense of screwing all my friends" and then there's the idea that he's trying to say, "Fuck them, I don't need them, their all full of shit anyways, let's just hang out, me and you."

"...do they all look like mine "
In other words, he wants to know if she feels like he does, constantly thinking of her.

"screw all my friends
behind my back "

The second time around, it's known that we're talking about the literall sense here, with the added line.

"I wish you'd make up my bed
so i could make up my mind
try it for sleeping instead
maybe you'll rest sometimes
i wish i could "

Great way to end the song, sarcasm and the sad truth.
Long story short: Through whatever they've gone through and whatever she's done to him, or still does, he can't stop thinking about her. OR, with the whole ambiguous stuff...he's not using his bed for rest ie: trying to replace her with a number of other people.

This is the only song i've heard by Ryan Adams as far as I know, but it kinda reminds me of David Gray, so it's good in my books.

Blink-182 – Story of a Lonely Guy Lyrics 19 years ago
Funny story actually.

The other day a good friend were driving around with a carload of people, just cruising around in the summer heat. Before we left, we grabbed a bunch of old CD's lying around the house. This one particular CD was one of those MP3 ones. Popped it in. Mostly Zeppelin and Metallica was on the the disk, until I stumbled onto these guys...Blink! I know, whether you'll admit to it or not, at one time everyone and their mother were listening to these guys...and it really does bring back memories. I haven't heard any of this stuff in forever, but it was fun checking it out all over again, and you know, everyone in the car could sing along.

I find it funny, coming from a band with song titles such as "Fucking Dogs" "Ben Wah Balls" and "When You Fucked Grandpa", along with songs about getting blow jobs from your mom, that these guys put out some seriously genuine stuff that touched alot of people, and put out songs that everyone can relate too. I just chose to post about this song, because it's one that played during the little trip, and it's also one of the tracks that can easily be related to, among others, like "Stay Together For The Kids" and maybe "Adam's Song". Anyways, it looks like everyone here's pretty much got the "song meaning" expressed, so I won't bother getting into that. Sorry for all the run on sentences haha.//
