Good, simple lyrics by John. Ernie abuses Tommy. The character was created by Pete and was named "Uncle" because when his mother had male "friends" over, little Pete was ordered to call them Uncles. While being sung John does it the best due to his deep voice (Billy Idol sucked, all he did was say Fuck after every line). Long Live John Entwistle! |

| The Who – Cut My Hair Lyrics

This is about Jimmy getting sick of being a mod. He has to keep being mod to have friends and his life is getting torn apart. He is also arguing with himself whether or not to go to the beach fight.
* Zoot Suit was the B-side of The Who's first single: I'm the Face. This single was recorded in 1964 when the Who were called the High Numbers. By adding this line, Pete was refering to the Who's mod days. |

| The Who – Cousin Kevin Lyrics
|
Pete Townshend decided that Tommy needed to be taken advantage of. Pete was unable to write a song about Tommy being bullied due to his personal experiences (he was bullied because of his nose). Pete told John Entwistle to write the song. John created Cousin Kevin and based the character on a bully he knew and fought (John won the fight:).
Kevin is probably Ernie's son. Ernie may have molested Kevin and that may have lead him to a disturbed, violent life. Christmas also probably sets the scene for this song.
I love the piano. |

Tommy's parents show concern for him in this song because they think that he can't go to Heaven without knowing Jesus, but Tommy can't learn about Him for obvious reasons.
Even though Tommy is having fun playing pinball, his parents wish that they could have fun with him. His parents, unhappy that they can't have a normal family Christmas begin to think that they should seek a miracle cure for Tommy. |

| The Who – Boris The Spider Lyrics

I have two theories to explain this song. John used dark humour in most of his songs and he might have used that to treat his arachniphobia. I also think that some Speed or LSD John took may have caused him to believe that spiders were crawling on his body; this might explain the high-pitched "Creepy crawly." |

There is the obvious reaction that Jimmy is talking to Ace Face. (I used to follow you...) This doesn't mean that Ace is the Bellboy. Jimmy may simply have applied for a job as a Bellboy and start jumping back and forth between personalities as he speaks with his hero. The bellboy reminds me of Keith Moon. Awesome drumming at the beginning. |

| The Who – Behind Blue Eyes Lyrics

Behind Blue Eyes is a description of the villain of Lifehouse whose name was Brick, no joke. The villain is seemingly a bad person that doesn't like being bad (but my dreams...aren't as empty as my conscience seems to be). Brick may suffer from mental illness that doesn't allow for himself to control his actions (maybe an effect of the apocalyptic conditions in the story). Brick may even be schyzophrenic but since Lifehouse was never completed Pete carried the idea over to Quadrophenia with Jimmy. A great song nonetheless, and the best work ever by Roger Daltrey. |

This song was meant to be the opening song of Lifhouse and the first rock song to use synth. Sally is a girl that lives in a futuristic Scotland. She is being summoned by radio waves to travel south to London for a post-apocaliptic concert.
Lifehouse may have fell apart, but the music rocks! |

| The Who – The Acid Queen Lyrics
|
This song was written by Townshend in a time that he was rejecting psychedelic drugs. Even though this is music it is historically incorrect. Tommy was born during WW1, maybe 1918, but LSD never came around until the 1960s, let's say 1966. Tommy would be 48 years old and his parents about 70 when he does Acid, but the "queen" refers to him as "young but not a child."
It is possible that the "gypsy" is a prostitute who will "open his eyes" by pleasuring Tommy. She say "just give me one NIGHT." |

Squided, I think you're on the right track for Bohemian Rhapsody since that too is an opera.
This song rocks live and the lyrics are amazing in telling the story of the girl. In the Live at Leeds version of the song, Pete said "little girl guide" possibly to make the audience assume that she was a molested young girl and "her man" is really her father. |

| The Who – 5:15 Lyrics

This song is all about confusion. "where have I been?" "quiet stormwater" "why should I care?"
Townshend wrote this song because he was bored, not meant to be a major part of Quadrophenia's story.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but it sounds great! |

| The Who – 1921 Lyrics

Pete Townshend- many years after writing Tommy- realized that there were some years from his childhood that he didn't remember. After asking his mother he discovered that those dark years were during a period of divorce for his parents which may have been caused by his mother having another relationship. This song also reflects Townshend's life because his father was in the military. This song is a subconcious authobiography by Pete. |
