i think The 'Honeymoon' bit about Trotsky is about what Trotsky did after being exiled. He was made to leave Russia and renowned for travelling all around the globe (a la a honeymoon) and bieng rejected from several different Countries. But I haven't a clue what the 'seranade the naked' bit is about. |

i have allways loved song, and call it stupid or whatever, but having just recovered from 3 months of Chemo I just feel I understand (And therefore enjoy!) this song a whole lot more. It's like what 'stain' said, Having something which you disagree with (wether that be phisically in my case or on on grounds of not being portrayed as sell outs in Radiohead's case) but needing it, like really needing it, to stay alive. But I don't think you need to have been through what I've been through to get it, you can understand with the common situations, i.e. Doing a shity job you really hate, but having to do it in order to maintain a living. I just feel my expirience just made me respect this song way more than before |

WOW! this is, besides Sympathy..., possibly the greatest Stones track ever. First heard this when I was very little, probably as young as about 5, as my dad is a massive Stones fan, and being very scared of it! i didn't actually realy know the lyrics until later on as Jagger slurs alot, and when realized what they were for the first time, it sent a chill down my spine, and i felt how I did when I first heard it all over again. love it to death now though! |

I honestley think the last line is actually simpler, its about him likeing someone, even though he knows they'll probably never even notice him, its that classic, fancying-someone-but-they-dont-even-know-you-exist situation. |

i absolutely love this song, extremely dark. This is deffinately one of there best songs, and , as ussual with this band (bigger boys and stolen sweethearts, settle for a draw, Temptation greets you like a naughty friend, the bakery.) , its destined only to be a b side. love the guitars on this song, make it sond like it should be bieng played in some shady pub in the eighties. Anyway, on to what I think its about. To be honest some of it has stumped me (When you fit me, as sundays frozen pitch FITS the thermos flask?!?!) anyway I think its about a couple who are locked in constant argument-sex cycle(we're either shouting or we're shagging), as with most couples comming to an end. Anyway it's told from the point of view of one of the couple, telling us about how he feels about the relationship, and he comes to realise throughout the song that the relationship can't go on, even though he obviously want's it to. Allthough he is not certain at first (Its uncertain whether the curtain has shut for good) The last 2 lines is the narrator making this finall realisation. (Its just hit me, we can't go back, to the chest touching on the back) which litterally about how they started out, in love, as cudlling someone from behind is a sign of great affection. I think alex has summed up haw many people feel in relationships that they want to stay in even though they know its immpossible. Great song and mind blowing lyrics |

Love the second verse.
"Hand me my Gun my friend,
We'll have some fun,
And shoot down the spies from the trees"
Seems to be about the Childhood games people play as best friends when they're really young and innocent, don't know if that has any relevance to the song
This song is just reeking of quint Englishness, and everything the Libertines stood for. |

LukeFun you are a TWAT, why the hell keep posting on Bands you hate. You yourself are a sheep to the idea that if you dont like major bands then you are somehow different, Wrong, this to is becoming a main part of the music industry. Start supporting bands that you like and stop slagging off Bands you dont, otherwise FUCK OFF! |

I think Devandra is trying to say he has been caught in many relationships that are just about sexuall atraction. He realises and is told that Love is much better.
I love this song, gets me every time. |

| Arctic Monkeys – A Certain Romance Lyrics

This song has a load of different meanings.
1st its about youth culture in sheffield, and how everyone sucumbs to it, knackered converse, Classic reeboks etc. And bassically about the kind of crap you have to put up with people like that growing up in a major city.
2nd its about trying to get people to realise that you are in love as a kid. All kids think that theyre in love as a kid, alltough its just ussually sexual atractio, hance the title, because its romance to a certain extent, so when you are in love no one believes you 'We'll tell 'em if you like, We'll tell 'em all tonight, They'll never listen'
3rd It's a warnig to enyone who's never been to Seffield and is coming for the first time. He's saying that people are different in Sheffield, typically they get drunk, have fights and act like dickheads, because they think its ok to do that, because they've been brought up like that and everyone else acts like that. So Alex is telling outsiders that they can't get angry with them for bieng like that, because its not their fault.
I love this song, in fact the whole albums brill, but this song is special. I allways feel like taking a walk around Sheffield city centre when this song is playing and seeing just how true it is about sheffield, which it is every time.
Arctic Monkeys Rule!!
